Congratulations to Heather Cone at Greenmont Elementary for being awarded a grant for “Nonfiction Rocks!”

“Here are grades 2, 3 & 5 so excited by the new books! The arrows on the floor are part of our Musical Books game (think musical chairs, but when the music stops, you get to look at the book on the chair). Their faces tell the story! They LOVE them!!”

GRANT AWARDED- Ryan Lamb Fairmont High School

Wordless Rhetoric: Analyzing Rhetorical Choices in a Graphic Novel

“This grant allowed my junior AP/IB English Language & Composition students to re-encounter a genre (graphic novel) that many of them are unfamiliar with and examine how rhetorical choices can be used in visual media. Throughout the year, we study traditional texts (speechs, essays, novels), but the visual arts are often under-explored. Reading a wordless graphic novel enhances inference skills, encourages critical thinking, and expands the realm of analysis.”
