A big thank you to our local VFW for their generous donation of 2,000 Child ID Kits to the Kettering Police Department!
These kits allow parents to record important identifying information about their children, including photographs, fingerprints, physical characteristics, and emergency contact information. The kits are designed to be completed at home and kept by the family, providing valuable information that can be immediately shared with law enforcement if a child ever goes missing.
We are grateful for the VFW’s continued support of our community and their commitment to helping keep our children safe. We plan to have these kits available at our community events.

We are wishing a huge congratulations to Dispatcher Stephanie Hall on being selected as a member of the Ohio Telecommunicator Emergency Response Task Force (TERT)!
TERT is a highly specialized team of emergency communications professionals who can be deployed to assist communities when local dispatch centers are overwhelmed by critical incidents, natural disasters, or other emergencies. These telecommunicators provide vital support to ensure emergency calls continue to be answered and first responders remain connected when communities need them most.
Selection to Ohio TERT is a significant achievement and reflects Stephanie’s professionalism, expertise, and commitment to public safety. As a member of the team, she will have the opportunity to assist agencies across the state during times of crisis while bringing valuable training and experience back to our own communications center.
Please join us in congratulating her on this outstanding accomplishment!

This week, we wrapped up our joint Rescue Task Force training with Kettering Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, and Dayton Fire Department at Van Buren Middle School. We were able to train on critical incidents and active shooter scenarios in a realistic setting.
In a real world situation, coordination and communication amongst several different agencies can create a whole new barrier in the midst of an already chaotic situation. Realistically, agencies from all over the region would be responding. This training helps us learn how to work together before the emergency actually happens, that way we are better prepared during one. We train together now so we can respond together, effectively and efficiently, when it matters most.
A special thank you to Travelin' Toms Coffee Truck who came out to our training and donated coffee to us!

As a reminder, you may notice personnel from the Kettering Police and Fire Departments at Van Buren Middle School this week. No need to be alarmed; this is simply a scheduled training exercise. We appreciate your understanding and are grateful for the men and women who take the time to train and prepare to keep our community safe!

We want to take the time to recognize two officers who, earlier this month, received notable awards from two local organizations. Officer Kayla Gudgell was awarded the Noon Optimist Club’s Officer of the Year for 2025, and Officer Ed Simoni was awarded the DorWood Optimist Club’s Officer of the Year for 2025.
These awards reflect their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community. We are proud of their accomplishments and grateful for the positive impact they make every day. Congratulations to both of you!

Text-to-9-1-1 is now available in our community!
While voice calls are always preferred because they are real-time, faster and allow dispatchers to hear background noise that can provide critical information, we know that is not always possible. Texting 9-1-1 is a safe and important option for those who are hearing or speech impaired or in situations where speaking out loud could put you in danger.
Call if you can. Text if you can't.
If you ever need to text 9-1-1, here is what to know:
Enter 9-1-1 as the recipient
Send your exact location first
Briefly describe the emergency
Answer questions from the dispatcher
Do not use abbreviations or emojis
We hope you never need it, but we want you to know it is there. Stay safe, Kettering.
