March 17-23 is , the perfect time to sign up for a boating safety course before you get out on the water this year. This week we will be posting about various upcoming courses, so stay tuned to find out how you can get signed up!

Why take a boating safety course?

U.S. Coast Guard statistics indicate that of the accidents where the level of operator education was known, 81% of boating deaths occurred on boats where the boat operator had never received boating education instruction. While having a boating education certificate is not mandatory in the state of Alaska, taking a course can help you become a safer and more confident boat operator or passenger, and may even save you some money on boat insurance.
