As we were gearing up for our weekly Wednesday night training, KVRS received a report of an individual experiencing a medical emergency on the Chickamin River. A KVRS team, including a North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department medic, flew with Temsco Helicopters to reach the subject, provide medical care, and transport them back to Ketchikan for further treatment at the hospital.

This call is a good reminder for anyone heading into the backcountry: do your homework before the trip, prepare for changing conditions, leave a trip plan, and carry a reliable means of communication.
