Getting paid to break stuff.

Interesting article on the latest surveys to determine the height of Mount Everest. Sounds like after all that effort to get a GPS receiver to the summit, they only ran a two hour static occupation. Then the international politics complicate things.

How do you measure Everest? It's complicated by frostbite—and politics. Nepal has remeasured Mount Everest. Now China has to weigh in.

Keep 1/11th of a chain apart and stay safe and healthy.

(A chain, to my non-land surveyor friends, is 66.00 feet long.) 🙂

I just heard that my most favorite and best professor ever just passed away. He'd taught at UAF for six decades! I had seven or eight classes with him and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them! RIP Mr. Mendenhall! UAF and the state are better for your being there!
