Are you looking for a hiking buddy? Marshall says hi! He is a one-year-old basset hound/shepherd mix. Happy. Handsome. Ready to be yours.

This sweet boy came to us from animal control and has been winning hearts daily. He was selected to participate in the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience and learned sit, stay, down, come, drop it, and place. Leash manners? Check. Door etiquette? Check. Polite with strangers? Check.

Marshall is very sociable, loves everyone, enjoys pup cups, and hiking on the local trails. Where should he go for his next hike? Do you want to join him?

Meet our Prison Pups!

On the 7th anniversary of the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups program, we want to highlight these special dogs.

No, they didn't go to prison because they are "bad" or have behavior issues. They were selected for their sweet temperament and age to participate in the Prison Pups program, which helps returning citizens at the Metro Reentry Facility in Atlanta learn skills by training our adoptable dogs with our proven Mostly Mutts University curriculum.

The dogs received training in an immersive environment, meaning they learned faster, built confidence, and are ready to come to you socialized and skilled.

You cannot go wrong with any of these pups. Want a well-behaved, out-of-the-puppy-stage companion? Well, here they are!

Sweet Roadie is settling in at the shelter after recently returning to Mostly Mutts, through no fault of his own, and is ready to find his new family. If you're looking for a chill and lovable dog, here he is!

Roadie loves tennis balls and car rides, walks well on a leash, and gets along with other dogs and cats. Volunteers who have spent time with him say he knows common commands, listens well, and is easy to be around.

If you were to take Roadie on a car ride, where would you go? Drop your day trip ideas in the comments below!

There's a little face at Mostly Mutts right now that's been waiting for exactly you.

June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, and the timing couldn't be better. Kitten season is in full swing, and we're welcoming new litters every single week.

Thinking about adding a cat to your family? Here's why shelter cats are the best-kept secret in pet adoption:

🐾 You save more than one life. When you adopt, you open a spot for another cat in need; your one decision ripples forward.
😌 Cats are good for your health. Science says so. A cat's purr actually triggers the release of endorphins, your brain's feel-good chemicals.
🏡 They fit your lifestyle. Independent and low-maintenance, cats are ideal for busy households or first-time pet owners.
💉 Adoption is affordable. Our cats come vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and vet-checked, so you can skip the startup costs.
🐱 Toe beans. Need we say more?

Stop by Mostly Mutts and meet your new best friend. We promise they're already looking for you.

This is the face of a heartworm survivor!

According to the American Heartworm Society, over a million pets in the U.S. suffer from heartworms. Like Natalie! This sweet girl just completed her heartworm treatment and rest period. She's now ready to resume a regular exercise routine, which means she can play outside until her healthy heart's content.

She came to Mostly Mutts heartworm positive and went through multiple rounds of treatment. Natalie could have avoided the illness and the corresponding treatment with proper prevention. She has a recheck in August, so a local adopter is preferred.

While this disease is preventable, many pet parents overlook protection. The risk of heartworm increases in the summer, especially in Georgia, where mosquitoes are abundant and are the primary source of this disease. Contact your vet to set up a preventative plan for your pets if they are not already being treated, and stay ahead of heartworms.

Looking to add to your pack? Many pets at Mostly Mutts are waiting for a loving home. A few others are also undergoing heartworm treatment, but all will make a full recovery, and Mostly Mutts will support adoptive families through their new baby's heartworm treatment.

A second chance looks different for everyone. For some, it's a dog learning to trust again. For others, it's a man discovering what he's capable of.

That's the story behind Mostly Mutts Prison Pups, our partnership with Metro Reentry Facility in Atlanta, where returning citizens train our adoptable dogs using our proven Mostly Mutts University curriculum.

Here's how it works: Each dog is paired with two dedicated handlers who provide around-the-clock care, training, and companionship. The bond that forms is remarkable. Dogs build confidence faster. Trainers discover purpose and a path to a real career in dog care services. And every training note the men write gets passed along to adoptive families. A living record of each dog's journey.

The results? Accelerated adoptions. Meaningful employment skills. And lives changed, human and canine, on both ends of the leash.

The professional training each dog receives through this program is valued at $2,000. The impact it creates? Priceless.
