Another French Drain Done Right in NOLA!

We just finished this clean side-yard install — trenching along the foundation, laying perforated pipe, and backfilling with gravel for proper drainage. Tied into the downspouts to capture roof runoff and direct water safely away from the structure.

In New Orleans, with our heavy rains, high water table, and clay soils, unmanaged stormwater quickly leads to foundation problems, yard flooding, and even interior water damage. A well-designed French drain is one of the smartest green infrastructure investments for local homes.

At GreenMan Dan, Inc., we specialize in these tailored stormwater solutions — French drains, downspout extensions, standing water fixes, and more — built to handle our unique Louisiana conditions.

☔️💧🌧️ Protecting NOLA Homes from Stormwater One Trench at a Time!

Just wrapped up another French drain install in the city — complete with a proper downspout extension tying directly into the system at the top of the trench. This setup captures roof runoff before it saturates the soil, directs it through perforated pipe surrounded by clean crushed limestone, and safely disperses it away from the foundation.

In New Orleans, where heavy rains and poor drainage are a daily reality, these systems are essential green infrastructure. They reduce standing water, prevent foundation erosion, minimize mold risk, and help keep your yard usable even after a big pour.

At GreenMan Dan, we plan and install french drains, french drains with downspout combos, and full stormwater solutions tailored to our local clay soils and hurricane-prone climate.

New Orleans gets 60+ inches of rain per year. Most yards aren’t prepared for it. We are changing that.

On the opposite side of the fence is a banana tree that likes to spread under the fence into our client’s yard. Since we were already installing a French drain along that side it makes sense to include a root barrier along the section that passes the banana tree in an effort to prevent it from spreading out easily.

Green infrastructure isn’t just about plants—it’s effective, no-nonsense approach too. This French drain-style system uses crushed limestone filled trenches to filter and direct water, protecting the property while mimicking natural water movement. Proud to build resilient, eco-friendly solutions.

The home on the right takes on all the rainwater runoff from the neighbor on the left. When the concrete decking was installed around the pool it was also installed between the two houses. The concrete has a slope on it to keep the rain water from flowing into the pool and instead flows to the side of the home on the right and floods the backyard. This is not a good situation and over time causes damage to the home and makes for an undesirable outdoor environment when the soil remains soggy and a mess for days. A French drain along the property line that separates these two homes is the solution. Once we remove the concrete and install the French drain it will be a game changer!

The existing drainage system was ineffective at draining the water and would contribute to water pooling at the back of the house. We replaced the underground drainage pipe and added a clean-out access point at the base of the downspout. This improvement is already making backyard life better and dry.

With hurricane season approaching this home is getting ready with downspout extensions and catch basins to capture the rain water and keep the property drier.

Sometimes suspending the downspout drain pipe under the house is the better option.
