Had a lovely Mother’s Day on Maui with my mother, and the kid who made me a mama, too! 🥰

When I had my son, I developed a whole new level of appreciation for my own mom! Raising a kid is indeed beautiful and rewarding … but also exhausting, emotional, and sometimes a little heartbreaking all at the same time 😂

My son is now 12. And lately I’ve been feeling that invisible string between me and my son stretching just a liiiiiitle farther than it used to. 🥲The string isn’t breaking (it never will… I want him to call me every day until he’s 70 😜) but the string is just slowly stretching with him growing older. He doesn’t need me in the same ways he used to. It’s subtle for now. But it’s inevitable.

Isn’t it Weird to think that that part of parenting is trying to teach our children how to survive WITHOUT us someday? 😳🥺

My mother taught me a little something about this. And it has been such a gift.. She loved me and all my siblings so deeply, while still knowing how and when to let that invisible string stretch. She supported our independence without ever making us feel alone. She became both the safe place to land AND the reason we felt brave enough to fly in the first place. 🕊️

Mother Teresa said, “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.”

And the older I get, the more I realize ‘home’ was never really one place. It was always my mom’s love. 🫶

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mamas out there doing sooooo much, giving the best of themselves to their children, sometimes without acknowledgement or appreciation. Please keep finding ways to fill up your heart, so it can continue to overflow with love to those who need it. Sending love to those without their moms today. Luckily the tenderness of a mothers love comes in so many forms, 🌈and from many sources. 🥲✨🪷
