To Pilar Frank-O'Leary, the Aspen Conexión team, and all who participated; thank you for allowing me to be part of such a meaningful conversation during Local Business Partnerships: Building Bridges Between Kansas City and Latin America.

One of the greatest lessons in leadership is understanding that none of us has all the answers.

Real progress happens when people with different experiences, perspectives, and expertise come together with open minds and a willingness to learn from one another. It requires humility to acknowledge there is always room to grow, courage to consider new ideas, and wisdom to recognize that the best solutions are often built collaboratively.

I am grateful to have shared the room with leaders who are committed to strengthening relationships, creating opportunities, and building bridges across communities, cultures, and borders. The conversations were thoughtful, the ideas were inspiring, and the possibilities for our future are exciting.

As we continue positioning Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas on the global stage, partnerships matter. Listening matters. Learning matters.

The strongest communities are not built by people who believe they know it all. They are built by people who are willing to learn from one another and work together toward a common goal.

Thank you to everyone who shared their insights, experiences, and vision. I left encouraged, challenged, and inspired by what we can accomplish when we come together.

The future belongs to communities that are willing to collaborate, innovate, and grow.

And I believe our best days are still ahead.

Today, I had the honor of presenting a proclamation recognizing the extraordinary legacy of J.W. Jones Memorial Chapel as they celebrate 126 years of service to families throughout our community.

For more than a century, J.W. Jones has done far more than provide funeral services. Through generations of change, challenge, and growth, they have walked alongside families during some of life’s most difficult moments, offering compassion, dignity, comfort, and care.

Few institutions can claim a legacy that spans 126 years. Fewer still can say they have remained a trusted pillar of the community for that entire time.

Their story is woven into the history of Wyandotte County. They have served generations of residents, supported families through loss, and helped preserve the values of faith, service, and community that continue to define who we are today.

Businesses come and go. Institutions rise and fall. But organizations that remain committed to serving people for more than a century become part of a community’s foundation.

On behalf of the residents of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, thank you to J.W. Jones Memorial Chapel for 126 years of dedicated service, compassionate care, and unwavering commitment to our community.

Congratulations on this remarkable milestone and legacy.

Today was one of those days.

I arrived at the office by 7:30 a.m. and jumped straight into meetings. From there, I headed out to conduct outreach and check on some of our unhoused residents. The day moved so quickly that there wasn't time to stop, change clothes, or even grab lunch before heading to my next commitment. I ended up giving my presentation in my tennis shoes and the same clothes I had worn all day.

The truth is, I'm less concerned about looking the part than I am about doing the work. There is too much to accomplish, too many people counting on us, and too much opportunity ahead for Wyandotte County. I'll take progress over polish every time.

To be honest, for those who take the time to know me, that's not unusual.

Most days are filled from beginning to end. There are countless needs across our community, not enough hours in the day, and a lot of work ahead of us. Real change is hard work, and meaningful progress takes time.

Last night, during one of our Christal Clear Conversations, a resident said something that has stayed with me.

"We know you've only been in office a few months. We know real change takes time. We see you."

Those words meant more than I can express.

In a world where many people expect results overnight, it was encouraging to hear from residents who understand that building a stronger community is a marathon, not a sprint.

I want you to know that I see you, too.

I see the residents who show up to meetings.
I see the neighborhood leaders working to improve their blocks.
I see the volunteers, business owners, faith leaders, community advocates, and everyday citizens who are choosing to be part of the solution.

Thank you.

Thank you for your patience.
Thank you for your support.
Thank you for running alongside me as we work to move Wyandotte County forward.

I am committed to this work for the long haul. Not because it's easy, but because our community is worth it.

Together, we will continue to listen.
Together, we will continue to improve.
Together, we will continue to build the future our residents deserve.

And one day, we'll look back and be proud that we chose to do the hard work together.

We are Wyandotte County.

And we're just getting started.

This vision wasn't created behind closed doors.

It was built from conversations with residents, business owners, community leaders, faith leaders, neighborhood groups, young people, seniors, and people from every corner of Wyandotte County.

It is your vision!

It's a vision built around four key pillars: Infrastructure, Business, Housing, and Community; the areas you told us matter most for the future of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.

Now let me be honest.

I can't make this happen alone.

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City KS can't make it happen alone.

And it won't happen overnight.

Real progress never does.

But I believe something powerful happens when people stop asking, "Who is going to fix it?" and start asking, "How can I help?"

Maybe your passion is supporting local businesses.
Maybe it's helping improve neighborhoods.
Maybe it's mentoring young people.
Maybe it's housing, beautification, public safety, infrastructure, health, education, or community engagement.

There is a place for everyone in this vision.

You don't have to agree on everything.
You don't have to come from the same background.
You don't have to see every issue the same way.

In fact, our differences are not obstacles, they are strengths. They bring new ideas, new perspectives, and new solutions.

If we stay focused on what unites us, if we continue listening to one another, and if we each do our part, I believe that a few years from now we will look back and be proud of what we accomplished together.

We'll see safer neighborhoods.
Stronger businesses.
More housing opportunities.
Better infrastructure.
Healthier communities.
And a county that worked together to create the future it wanted.

The vision is clear.

The question is: Which pillar will you help build?

Because though I took ownership as my vision wall; the ideas came from YOU.

This is our vision. Will you take ownership too? Make it your vision wall too.

And together, we can create the Wyandotte County we all want to see.

Reset. Renew. Rebuild.
One World. One Wyandotte.
Together We Rise.

One of the greatest treasures in Wyandotte County isn't a building, a business, or a landmark.

It's our people.

I had the opportunity to spend some time with some of the true jewels of our community, our seniors. We laughed, shared stories, played cards, and yes...they reminded me that experience still matters!

Now, I'll admit, I lost a few hands. 😄

But I won a few too!

More importantly, I walked away with something far more valuable than a winning hand. I walked away with wisdom, perspective, and a deeper appreciation for the generations who helped build the community we enjoy today.

In a world that moves fast, sometimes we forget to slow down and listen. Yet some of life's greatest lessons are sitting right beside us, waiting to be shared.

So, this weekend, take some time to visit a parent, a grandparent, a neighbor, or a senior in your community. Sit down. Listen to their stories. Learn from their experiences. Enjoy their company.

You might be surprised by how much wisdom is still being passed around the table.

And if you're lucky, you might even win a hand or two. 😉

Have a blessed Saturday, Wyandotte County!

💙 Our seniors are not just part of our history; they are a vital part of our future.
