The AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program offers individuals age 18 years and above year-long, full-time service opportunities at organizations across the United States. AmeriCorps VISTA members work to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through volunteering and the mobilization of resources.
The Literacy KC VISTA Program seeks to address illiteracy and low literacy through a concentration on traditional literacy as well as health literacy, financial literacy, and digital literacy. The VISTA members and organizations that participate in the Literacy KC VISTA Program take a holistic, collaborative approach to literacy, building the organizations’ capacity to serve their clients, and addressing poverty in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
The Literacy KC VISTA Program includes AmeriCorps VISTA members serving at eighteen different organizations in the Kansas City metropolitan area. During their terms of service, our VISTA members participate in activities such as development, grant writing, volunteer coordination, and marketing, among other things. Members of the Literacy KC VISTA Team have the opportunity to serve their community while gaining valuable skill sets and experience for the future.
