Rowan County Animal Shelter, like many in our area, is full! They currently have a variety of ages, sizes, and breeds available - please stop by if you're looking for a new friend!

Our board is FULL! All the dogs seen here are available for adoption. This Board does not include the 7 puppies also available because we just simply could not fit anymore. The shelter is full and we need your help. Do you have room for another member of the family??? If you can not adopt right now just a simple share of this post could help find one of these sweet dogs their forever home!

June 17th is a chance to visit the new facility for dogs at Rowan County Animal Shelter!

After much anticipation, Shelter Guardians, Inc.has announced June 17th as the official date for the new Nina Dix Dog Adoption Center open house. We couldn’t be more excited or grateful! We hope to see everyone on the 17th!

The Nina Dix Dog Adoption Center located beside the current Rowan County Animal Shelter is only weeks away from being complete!!! REALLY!!! FINALLY!!!

Shelter Guardians’ $2.5 million fundraising goal for this project started in 2017, right after we dedicated the new Intake Room Addition built at the Rowan Shelter. Later, the actual construction of this building starting in March 2021.

And through all the issues like…red tape, COVID, material shortages, searching for needed materials, work force shortages, lock downs, cost increases, and the state changing their regulations/requirements for the first time since 2005 only weeks before completion (and that list goes on and on )…it is finally finished!! To call Shelter Guardians and its supporters determined at this point would be a huge understatement!!!

And best of all… this time the animals win!!!

Where… at the Nina Dix Dog Adoption Center located next door to the Rowan County Animal Shelter.

This may be the publics’ only opportunity to have viewing access of the “entire building”. There will be no shelter animals in the building at this event, since this is the day Shelter Guardians will be “Giving” this new facility to the homeless animals and citizens of Rowan County. Animals and shelter staff will move in after this event.

So please come out and visit this beautiful new facility built totally with funds from private individuals, no tax dollars included. That in itself is something that the animal loving citizens of Rowan County can be very proud of.

🐶🏠🐱 Bringing home a new pet is an exciting time, but it can also be overwhelming for both you and the animal. Here are some tips to help your new friend adjust to their home:

🐾 Give them space: Just like humans, pets need some time to get used to their new surroundings. Create a designated space for your pet to relax and feel safe in, like a cozy bed or crate. Don't invite new people or pets over to see your new pet - give them at least two weeks to adjust!

🐾 Be patient: Remember that it may take some time for your pet to fully adjust to their new home. It's common for animals to take at least 3 days to feel safe, 3 weeks to settle into the new routine, and 3 months to fully integrate into a household.

🐾 Make sure your containment is safe: Keep new pets on an escape proof collar, like a martingale, or escape proof harness, while outside - even inside a fence! It can take weeks to find out if your pet is a bolter, digger, or chewer. This applies to inside, too - make sure any crates or rooms are escape proof and pet-proofed!

🐾 Consult with a professional: If your new dog is showing signs of anxiety, fear, or aggression, don't hesitate to consult with a professional dog trainer. They can help you create a customized plan to help your dog feel more comfortable and confident in their new home.

We are sad to announce that the previous year was DogWorld's last year in operation. We are extremely thankful to have experienced such a wonderful place for all to enjoy. We understand that for a lot of people this was a very special place and we hope to continue using our socials to nourish and guide the community on all thing dogs.

We hope to restructure our socials and website by the end of the year so that next year we can begin bringing you content regarding all things dog. We hope to focus on dog behavior, specifically dog play in parks around the United States. But we also hope to bring you information on dog health such as nutrition, enrichment toys, and more. We also hope to start compiling a list of dog friendly places in the Charlotte area. We will also be thinking of reactive dogs when compiling the list. We will be including places that offer the proper amount of space to train through reactivity.

As we say goodbye, we hope the community can continue to exercise what they learned from the DogWorld experience. We hope that you will speak for dogs when they are uncomfortable in certain play instances, give dogs space when needed, and be mindful of all dogs in the social setting you are participating in.

DogWorld Dog Park provided an extra layer of safety to the dog park world and we hope we have inspired other dog parks to do the same. Thank you to the entire community for helping us along the way.

As of right now it looks like this will be our last season. We are trying our best to get outside investors or more traction on our GoFundMe. Our current best option is still the fundraising campaign. We are at $15,000 out of $300,000.

Our partner StonePaw Dog Training will be hosting Movement Markers tm November 11-13th for a workshop focused on identifying, assessing, using, and transforming structural and movement cues to aid in behavioral and sports training. This is the most comprehensive look at movement analysis and its correlations to behavioral restructuring and sports development that exists in workshop format.
