Juneteenth Kankakee events! This Saturday, there is a parade kick off across the Paramont Theatre parking lot at 10 am. The parade ends at Pioneer Park.

Hang out at the Kankakee Dems tent with AL Whitmon and some of our leadership team from 11 - 3 pm. Bring a lawn chair or use one of the foldable chairs. 🥰

This weekend we commemorate the victory over bo***ge and celebrate freedom over oppression. HAPPY JUNETEENTH to all!

Kankakee has no shortage of opportunities coming up to enjoy the holiday -- to name only a few:

🔹 Thurs, June 18: Kankakee Public Library hosts a storytelling by Oba William King and JUSTUSarts at 1:30pm, in conjunction with a Juneteenth Vendor Fair, 2-4pm, featuring several artists, makers, and chefs.

🔹 Friday, June 19: Kankakee Events Partnership presents a Juneteenth Concert at the Hill Stage in Downtown Kankakee featuring Sweet Tee, T'Smoove, DJ Mondy, and Melodic Industries. Music starts at 6pm.

🔹 Saturday, June 20: The Juneteenth Parade organized by the Juneteenth Celebration Community Council kicks off at 10am and runs along Court Street to Hobbie Avenue, then north to Pioneer Park.

🔹 JCCC's Freedom Festival at Pioneer Park continues all-day Saturday with activities, events, and a fireworks display at dusk sponsored by the City of Kankakee, Illinois.

The continued Supreme Court erosion of the Voting Rights Act is a racist attack on the fundamental democratic rights of Black people in the United States. Trump wants to take us back to the era of Jim Crow racism and disenfranchisement that was ushered in with the violent betrayal of reconstruction in 1877. But we will not go back.

Black people and all oppressed people have always fought back against racist and political repression. This Juneteenth weekend, join us in the streets to fight back and demand:

🚨South Suburban Relentless 🚨next THREE peaceful protestswill be held at 14700 LaGrange Road Orland Park, IL. All are held on SATURDAYS. All are held at the SAME TIMES. 11 am until 1pm.
📍The FIRST one is on June 20th. This is a regularly scheduled protest.
📌The SECOND one is on June 27th. This is from 50501 and is a Nationwide Call to Action. This is similar to a NO KINGS but the campaign is for All Of Us and the Erasure of Equality.
📍The THIRD one will be held on July 4th. Yes it is normally a day of BBQ's and Family and Fireworks. There will still be time to do all that! FLY OUR FLAG! No signs just OUR FLAG.
🚨As always there is NO engagement with counter protesters. Monitors will be onsite and visible to help you with any issue that may arise. Bring water, bring friends, bring chairs and wear sunscreen!!🇺🇸When injustice becomes law, RESISTANCE becomes DUTY!
