At Our Aging Services, we celebrate inclusion, diversity, and community every single day, not just on Juneteenth.
But today, we pause to honor this moment in history and celebrate with you.
Freedom. Resilience. Joy. Community.
Together, we keep building a world where every person is seen, valued, and supported. ๐

๐ Thank you, Jim Rowe, Kankakee County Stateโs Attorney, for hosting such a great Senior Fair yesterday. Your team did an amazing job!
Iโm grateful for the opportunity to speak about the services we provide and the many community resources available to our seniors. When we come together like this, we strengthen safety, dignity, and quality of life for the people who helped build this community.
Events like today remind me why this work matters.
๐ Community, collaboration, and care.... thatโs Kankakee County at its best.

Social isolation among older adults has become a growing concern across the country, especially after the lasting effects many seniors experienced during the pandemic years.
Losing regular routines, church involvement, transportation, or community connection can significantly affect both mental and physical health. Sometimes the biggest need older adults have is simply a consistent connection.

If you have started worrying every time your parent does not answer the phone right away, you are probably already feeling the emotional weight that comes with caregiving.
Concerns about falls, memory changes, driving, or living alone can create constant stress for families. Having guidance and support can help you make thoughtful decisions instead of reacting during a crisis.

Many adult children are quietly managing their parentsโ doctor appointments, prescription refills, transportation, grocery shopping, and finances while still working full time and raising their own kids.
If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. Caregiving responsibilities often increase slowly until families suddenly realize how much they are carrying. We would love to connect with you to talk about how we can support you in your journey!

โ๏ธ Heat awareness is trending nationwide, and for good reason. Seniors are more vulnerable to dehydration and heat-related illness โ especially during long outdoor days.
Quick tips for a safe summer:
โ Hydrate often
โ Wear lightweight clothing
โ Avoid peak heat (11amโ3pm)
โ Keep medications stored in cool spaces
Share this with someone who needs the reminder.

Summer is here โ and so is swimming season! โ๏ธ๐ฆ
As families head to pools, lakes, and splash pads, itโs important to remember that water safety matters for everyone, including aging adults and individuals with disabilities.
Did you know?
โข Adults 65+ experience a higher risk of slips and falls around wet surfaces.
โข People with sensory, mobility, or cognitive disabilities may need extra support in busy or noisy aquatic environments.
โข Adaptive swim programs are growing nationwide โ a huge win for inclusion this summer.
Letโs make the season safe, joyful, and accessible for all.
If youโre caring for a senior or a child with a disability, consider:
โ Non-slip sandals
โ Brightโcolored swimwear for visibility
โ Life vests designed for adaptive needs
โ A โswim buddyโ system for added safety
Summer fun belongs to everyone. ๐

๐ Our #1 Call: โHow do I get to my doctor appointments?โ
If transportation has been a barrier for you or someone you care for, youโre not alone. While we don't offer transportation, we do have community partners that do!
Did you know organizations like Home Helpers offer companion transportation?
That means a trained caregiver can drive you to your appointmentโฆ and your family member or caregiver can ride along or stay home. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
Itโs safe, supportive, and designed for anyone who needs a little extra help getting to and from medical visits.
