Feliz Gemini season. The times are heavily unhinged

I was reading about mysticism for a piece I’m writing and came across this talk with and every time I hear this man speak I am utterly mermerised. His voice, cadence, delivery is soulful in every sense of the way. It digs deep into the earth and the roots, it comes from the place where things are emerge — and that place can be dark and dirty like the earth, yet it is the place where seeds find the courage to emerge to the light, it’s the push, the nutritious place that makes life possible. I am in awe of this human.

Thought I’d start something new and offer some medicine for these times. There are books that completely changed the way I look at the world, or music albums that took me back to a time, or told me a story I didn’t know. This is how we become filled with awe. When something clicks in a way you didn’t thought possible. I fiercely believe that reading a book or listening to an album can shift your day, and sometimes your worldview. Curation to me is an act of care, so I hope you love these just as much as I do. 🩷

I will try to do this monthly, and much more is on my newsletter ANTIDOTES where you can have recs as well as

Last summer, before I left for the holidays, I went to visit my friend Laura at her gallery La Chiquita. As we talked about a future project my eyes were caught by a little yellow book with cursive writing titled Why I write: George Orwell. It is a beautiful, rare edition written in his handwriting, and it is out of print.

It inspired me to write about a subject that must be taken with nuanced. This is an exploration that will expand with time, but it felt necessary to share it with the world right now 🩵

I love noticing how the light shifts through the seasons inside my home. The most impressive time is spring, when more and more light dances inside my home making objects and walls protagonists of fleeting moments.

What I love about winter is it allows you to forget, and the magic of spring is the reminder that the light always comes back.

This interview with Toni Morrison is one I constantly return to. Years ago I made a video of flowers growing in terraces, on big roads, between the cracks of concrete. I collected these videos without knowing why, and then I came across these words and they were my way in. Those flowers constantly remind me of that attempt to live as fearlessly and beautifully as one can, under circumstances that are unfavourable, or impossible.

THis is what poetic antidotes are about, those attempts, those ways of living that in their simple existence are rebellious. I hope these reflections serve you in some way 🩷
