the depth of midnight
-
“the moon has set beyond the seas,
and vanished are the Pleiades;
half the long weary night has gone,
time passes—
yet i lie alone.”
change is an ever-evolving aspect of life that never stops, how does that affect our relationships with ourselves and the world around us?

“leave the light on, for me” screenprint on secondhand lamp shades
returning home is a phenomenon that is observed across all species. everyone yearns to return to a place where they can feel safe and secure, to find the light guiding them to security. this piece uses the barn swallow as a metaphor for this, a bird that returns to their home nest each year.

sharing some art i never got around to posting….
this was a four-color cmyk screenprint from my print 2 class last semester!! it was a physical collage that i made, then scanned in to make it into a screenprint 🌟
“growing pains” speaks about the transition and change i felt moving away from home for college, and the growth i have experienced since then. i included maps from my hometown and kalamazoo along with other landscape cutouts from magazines to tell the story of that change in my life.

“can you see this, can ANYONE see this?”
as my final project in my post-digital print class, i worked with the concept of the invisibility of emotions, and how they can be portrayed in a visible and physical sense. each panel of fabric represents a different emotion, moving from left to right: sadness, fear, anger, and joy. using a physical process of wood carving, i used different markmaking techniques to portray these feelings. using laser cut paper and a handmade wooden frame, i created a lampshade or lantern, projecting the phrase “can you see this, can ANYONE see this?” onto the prints. how can an invisible concept be portrayed in a physical world? how can emotions exist without a human body connected to them?
