Kalamazoo Humane Society
The KHS has been active in the Kalamazoo area for over 100 years. Not a shelter, not a rescue... A solution.
The Kalamazoo Humane Society is a non-sheltering animal welfare organization focused on the prevention of pet overpopulation and affordable access to veterinary care. We also assist struggling pet owners to keep the pets they already have by offering services and resources that prevent pets from ending up in rescues and shelters.

❤😻🥳Today We Celebrate 129 Years of Compassion ❤️
Founded in 1897, the Kalamazoo Humane Society has spent 129 years standing up for animals and supporting the people who love them. Every day, that mission continues—providing critical care, food, and resources to animals who have nowhere else to turn.
But the need is growing. More families are reaching out. More animals require medical care, safe shelter, and support. And we are committed to being there—just as we have been for over a century.
To meet this need, we are working to expand our veterinary team and services so we can help even more animals in our community. But we can’t do it alone.
👉 Today, we’re asking for your support.
Your donation—of any size—directly helps us provide lifesaving care, comfort, and hope to animals in need.
If the Kalamazoo Humane Society has ever touched your life, we invite you to give back today and be part of the next chapter of compassion.
Together, we can continue this mission—for the next 129 years and beyond. 🐾💜

🐾 Urgent Help Needed — Pet Food Bank Storage!
The Kalamazoo Humane Society Pet Food Bank provides thousands of pounds of pet food and litter every week to families working hard to keep their beloved pets at home.
Recently, we lost access to a storage space that allowed us to safely hold large donations, and our current building simply does not have the capacity to store bulk shipments. Many of our most critical donations arrive in large quantities — often 20–25 pallets at a time.
In fact, due to this space limitation, we recently had to turn away an entire truckload of donated supplies valued between $70,000–$100,000. This was an incredibly difficult loss and highlights just how urgently storage is needed.
Without donated food, KHS must spend $5,000–$6,000 every month on pet food and litter to keep the food bank operating — a cost that is not sustainable long-term.
💛 We are urgently seeking donated or low-cost storage space for approximately 25 pallets of pet food and supplies.
What we need:
- Space for ~25 pallets (no temperature control required)
- Access once or twice per week
- Local to Kalamazoo (willing to travel a reasonable distance)
- Temporary space would still be incredibly helpful
- KHS staff will keep the area clean and organized
- Tax deduction available for donated space (KHS can also contribute financially if needed)
