Rem’s Rattery - SW Michigan
Providing healthy and well-mannered rats from our home to yours. I first started my rat journey when I started working for Charles River Labs.
While at CRL, I worked in the necropsy lab for 2 months and Clinical Pathology for 1 year. It is at CRL that I fell in love with rats. I remember seeing a drawing one of the artists employed by CRL created and hung up near the cafeteria. That's when I decided that one day I would own pet rats. Never in a million years did I think my journey would come this far! Needless to say, I quickly became ob

LETS GOOOOO!!!
It’s deep cleaning time!! Over the year, I save all of my “used past it’s point” dirty non-porous items so that in the sunny months, I can do a massive cleaning haul. The items shown are EXTRAS and don’t include what’s currently being used! Once these are clean, I’ll swap them out for the ones being used right now and clean them to wrap up the deep clean 🙂
I’ll spray them off with the hose first before they get soaked in a vinegar water bath.
P.s. in the winter, we have to use our bath tub for this 😷 it gets thoroughly sterilized after… but we prefer the outside!

Did some deep cleaning of all hammocks/porous items in the cages. This weekend we will tackle the non-porous items.
We had a lot of fabric to wash, lost a couple along the way that were too far from saving, and soaked the clips in vinegar water.
There’s a lot of upkeep going on behind the scenes of a Rattery to ensure the environment is clean enough so the rats remain healthy. It’s easy when it’s 1-5 rats, but gets harder when it’s closer to 80 😝
I’ll spend around 2-3hrs cleaning all of the non-porous items this weekend, as has been the trend. That’s about as long as it takes for me to clean all cages every week.
🐀 I know, this is a long video.
I couldn’t simply capture the cuteness and absolute awe I have for this litter in just 30 seconds 😍🥺
We have some gorgeous mink martens, mink satins, Teddy Rex (whoops - parents are identical but apparently one is Rex and the other is velveteen!)
BONUS: a special surprise… watch until the end to see what we produced! 🎁
It’s a new variety to us and we are super stoked to see what it will mean for our line 💞
What’s the best part of this litter? Out of 11 babies, NINE are female! 🎉 we broke the curse of the male-heavy litters!! 🥳
For those who have been wanting females - there will be 6 females available in just over 6 weeks from now!
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Did you see my last post?
Remember how I said it’s unlikely there would be marten…. But didn’t say I won’t have marten?
Yeah. Turns out they’re marten 😂 Oyster (marten) x Moth (Russian blue rex), who kicked off my CFR line, have finally shown their marten side again a few generations later! Didn’t expect it from two mink velveteens but here we are 😝 definitely explains the red eyes, just crazy how not a single one had black eyes when both parents do!
That being said 👀 hoping for sectoral heterochromia (dragon eyes) for the marten babies. Oyster had it, and it’s my personal fave 😁

🪽Angel had 11 babies today!! With a twist…
All are red/ruby eyed. Not a black eye in sight. What. The. Heck. Both parents are black eyed (I verified with a flashlight), so all babies are likely Mink (~80%? Is my guess), Pink Eyed White, or Beige. Unlikely there is Marten. Very interesting… we will see how the babies turn out as they age the next week or two!
Stay posted! 🐀❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🐀

Don’t let the photo fool you - these are not the same rats! 🐀😛
Angel (CFR) x Fat Nuggets (CFR) are expecting any day now! Both are mink velveteen Berkshire with stellar temperaments 🥰
Fat Nuggets is in the cool down bin for a week before being put back into the community cage. Angel has been given shredded paper for nesting as she draws close to her due date! We are SO looking forward to their babies!! 😍
😱 Oh no, we are in trouble now!! 😳
Ferrari x Orion litter 🫘 has learned to CLIMB! They’re taking full advantage and at every turn there’s another trying to climb out! No one is safe from this, ultimate cuteness is determined to head your way! 🚀
Ferrari’s litter is coming along nicely! Crazy how most are the same color 😆
Happy Memorial Day!
Kimchi and Monkey have been moved into the community cage for a month or so now and are ready to find their forever home!
Monkey is from my WIP (CRCE) line, but she is an exceptionally sweet rat and I believe she is suitable for a pet home!
Kimchi is from the CFR line and is a super sweetheart who loooves treats and always greets me at the door 🥰
As always, retirees are f r e e for returning clients, or 20 each for new clients 💕
