The Walter Soboleff Building opened in May 2015. It is a cultural and research center for the sharing and study of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultures.

The Walter Soboleff Building is a cultural and research center for the sharing and study of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultures. It includes the largest installation of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian art in the state made by some of the best artists of our time. It includes a space modeled after a traditional clan house with hand-adzed cedar walls, a "fire pit" and tiers for communal activities. I

The most recent additions to the SHI Store's unique selection of hand-made items include cedar formline ornaments made on site by Tlingit carver Lance Cesar, our current artist-in-residence, and metal ornaments in Northwest Coast designs -- including patinated copper tináas -- created by Tlingit jewelry artists Daaljíni Folletti Cruise and Roz Cruise.
