Alaska Litho is seeking an individual for the position of Production Specialist. Applicant should be detail oriented, organized, hard-working, self-motivated, a team player, and reliable. Applicant must also have a mechanical aptitude, and be able to lift, bend and twist with 70lbs. Applicant should be able to work varying shifts when needed. Salary is D.O.E. Job Summary:
Alaska Litho’s Production Specialist is the foreperson of our production facility. The position requires a diverse skill set. The Production Specialist is responsible for both pre and post press cutting, operation of offset printing press, digital printers, binding equipment, packaging of finished printed products, assisting with deliveries when necessary, maintaining a clean and organized facility, and repairing and maintaining production equipment. The Production Specialist is required to assist with inventory management, the ordering of machine parts and consumables (ink, paper, and sign supplies). This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Operate and maintain a large paper cutter
• Operate an offset printing press / provide back up to offset press operator
• Operate a digital printing press / provide back up to digital press operator
• Operate various bindery/finishing equipment
• Operate a wide format printer
• Operate sign finishing equipment such as a CNC router, panel saw
• Operate a forklift
• Assist in all areas of production as needed or assigned in an effort to meet required deadlines
• Installation of vinyl graphics and or signage.
• management
• Order paper, sign supplies, machine parts, and consumables as assigned
• Receive freight and stock inventory
• Organize and track pre-printed inventory
• Support prepress and graphic design, customer service, and all production staff
• Work with customer service to resolve problems and conflicts in the production schedule
• Machine repairs and maintenance as needed or assigned
• Track/monitor jobs in production
• Ensure jobs are updated and tracked accordingly in workflow software
• Responsible for facility upkeep and maintenance
• Maintain a clean, orderly, safe and secure work area at all times and follows all established safety and quality control procedures
• Ensure strict confidentiality of client records
• Some overtime, weekend, and holiday work may be required as needed
• Performs other functions as needed, required, or as assigned
Position Qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent. An Associate or Bachelor Degree is preferred.
• Three or more years’ experience in the printing, sign, and mailing industry or equal experience in manufacturing or construction.
• Must be responsible, detailed oriented, self-motivated, and work well unsupervised
• Good oral communication, good written communication, and excellent math skills
• Cooperativeness in working successfully with others and immediate supervisor
• Good computer skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to proficiently read and write English is an essential function of this position
• Ability to use and understand measuring devices
• Mechanically Inclined

Alaska Litho is seeking an individual for the position of Prepress Technician/Graphic Designer. Applicant should be very detail-oriented, hard-working, self-motivated, a team player, and reliable. Applicant must have an excellent working knowledge of both mac and pc platforms, the Adobe Creative Suite products, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat, in addition to Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel. Applicant should be able to lift 40 pounds and work varying shifts when needed.

Job Summary:
Alaska Litho’s Prepress Designers are the interface between the graphic designer/customer and the shop’s production manager. Files generated by customers and the prepress department must be reviewed so that both project proofs and press plates can be accurately prepared in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards, as well as customer expectations.

Responsibilities and Duties: Prepress / Design
• Create and design logos, newsletters, calendars, and much more using a thorough understanding of design principles, color theory, and professional design practices.
• Receive and manipulate files electronically from email, disk, FTP and other transfer means.
• Preflight and troubleshoot customer digital layout files, load fonts, inspect graphics, fix bleeds, fix folds.
• Layout and impose files for numerous press room printing processes. Create new imposition templates when necessary for offset press projects.
• Produce calibrated proofs and/or pdf soft proofs for customers.
• Scan/photograph customer artwork for print or disk, color correct to original artwork.
• Prepare and process Excel data for variable data mail lists.
• Archive completed jobs to disk and network drive on a monthly basis and organize files for safe keeping and for easy retrieval.
• Perform routine computer maintenance, including software updates and utility maintenance.

Responsibilities and Duties: General & Administrative
• Coordinate and communicate with the production team and the sales team to produce and prioritize jobs, and, when necessary, reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates.
• Participate as a key player in the company by supporting operations as needed.
• Follow systems and procedures outlined in the employee manual.
• Provide training, advice, and education to customers on the preparation of digital files and general graphic design.
• Keep current on latest technologies and software tools.
• Operate large format inkjet printing equipment and cutting device.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements
• Minimum of 2 years of print production experience and a working knowledge of printing industry terminology, practices, and procedures.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a graphic designer.
• Excellent and up-to-date knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, Word, Excel.
• Working knowledge of Macintosh and Windows platforms and operating systems.
• Excellent language and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, creatively, efficiently, under pressure and under deadline.
