Getting a mortgage is a big process—and having the right lender makes all the difference.

Just like hiring a CPA you trust, you want someone who will guide you through each step, communicate clearly, and help you get to the finish line smoothly.

So what should you look for in a lender?

First—go local.
A local lender’s business is built on relationships, referrals, and reputation. They understand our market, our timelines, and what it takes to actually get a deal done here in Juneau.

Second—communication is everything.
You want someone accessible. Ideally, you have their cell phone number—not a 1-800 line—and they respond within 2-3 hours. When you’re writing an offer or something comes up with your loan, documents, or appraisal, timing matters. You shouldn’t be waiting days for an answer.

Third—experience and knowledge.
A strong lender knows how to navigate challenges, structure your loan properly, and anticipate issues before they become problems. That kind of expertise can make or break a transaction.

And finally—fair rates and fees.
Of course, you want a competitive loan. But the lowest rate doesn’t always mean the best experience, so it’s important to look at the full picture.

If you’re not sure where to start, we are always happy to share a few trusted local lender recommendations

Grateful for clients who take the time to share a review like this.

Helping someone navigate a move—especially when they’re relocating out of state—means a lot to us.

Our goal is always to make the process feel smooth and supported from start to finish.

I’m also so happy for this client as they move into the next chapter and are now in the process of buying a home out of state.

If you’re thinking about buying or selling in Juneau, we're always happy to help!

April in Juneau… spring, snow, spring, snow.

I think most of us are more than ready for consistent sunshine at this point.

As the snow comes and goes and starts to melt, the real estate market is beginning to pick up. We expect more homes to come on the market over the next 4–6 weeks, and buyer demand remains strong, especially for well-maintained, updated homes.

So far in 2026:
• 40% of homes have sold over asking
• 53% have sold at full price
• 33% have gone under contract in less than a week

We’re also seeing a growing number of pre-qualified buyers actively looking.

Spring and early summer tend to be some of the best times to sell in Juneau. Homes show better, daylight hours are longer, and buyers can fully evaluate properties without snow and ice.

If you’ve been thinking about selling—or just want to talk through timing—Charlene Steinman Realtor and I are here if you need anything.

One question we get asked by buyer clients is:
What’s the difference between Lemon Creek and Salmon Creek?

They’re close in location, but offer different lifestyles.

Lemon Creek
Located just south of the airport and midway between the Mendenhall Valley and downtown Juneau, Lemon Creek is a convenient option for those who travel frequently or work downtown or in the medical field. It’s also close to Costco, Jerry’s Meats & Seafood, and Alaskan Brewing Company. Properties here often offer good value, with larger lots and a lower price per square foot compared to other areas.

Salmon Creek
Located in the Twin Lakes area north of downtown, Salmon Creek offers proximity to the water with views of the Gastineau Channel, wetlands, and North Douglas. The area features a beautiful walking trail around the lakes, a playground, and is close to the hospital and medical offices. It also provides easy access to downtown restaurants, shopping, and government offices.

Neither is better — it really comes down to what fits your lifestyle.

If you’re thinking about a move and want to talk through different areas in Juneau, we're always happy to help.

Curious — which would you choose: Lemon Creek or Salmon Creek?

One question that comes up often—especially this time of year—is:

If you’re moving out of Juneau… should you rent your home or sell it?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but there are a few important things to think about:

• Property management in Juneau can be more limited than in larger markets, and availability can vary. It’s also often more hands-on than people expect.

• Homes here require ongoing maintenance, especially with our weather and moisture.

• Rental demand is strong—but so are the responsibilities that come with it.

• Selling may free up equity for your next move.

• And one of the biggest factors—do you want to manage a home from out of state?

For some, holding onto a property makes sense. For others, selling creates more freedom and less long-term stress.

If you’re weighing your options, we're always happy to talk it through with you.
