In order to get free from a religious orphan spirit, we need to be able to get to know God. How do we do that? We develop a secret relationship with the Him. We say “secret” because this part is not for others to see. If your relationship only kicks in around other people, then it is probably rooted in performance. Real relationships exist even when nobody else is around. So what does a secret relationship look like? There is not a checklist for this. It looks different for different people. But here are a few elements that are essential:

-Talk to him when you’re alone.
-Spend time together.
-Learn more about him. (get in the Word)
-Listen for His voice.
-Be willing to lay down your old way of doing things.
-Look for ways to bless Him.
-Ask Him for help.

You might believe that God’s opinion of us changes; or that he is a god who resorts to punishment or even "wrath". The enemy will often put these skewed views of God in our minds to drive a wedge. The truth is, God is a loving Father who just wants to walk with us and have relationship with us. He truly has "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future". Our 8-week course highlights any false concepts of God you’ve held onto along with other inaccurate truths and helps to break them down to replace them with truth.

We serve a great God. We encourage you to take some time this next week to recognize things God put on this earth for the sole purpose of your enjoyment. Something as routine as a sunset or a certain view on your way to work are great examples. These are good reminders of the love He has for us and the detail He put in when creating the universe. He did that for us.

One of the very first things you will learn in our 8-session course is to START WITH YOURSELF. It's important first to work on YOU before working on your relationships or helping others in your life who may be struggling.
