We will soon begin our third year of breeding for the American Red standards. Two years of using Boer bucks has produced more color and heavier birth and one year weights. We continue to cull for conformation/performance faults. We look forward to next years crop of kids.

It is the time of year decisions are made, who stays and who goes. This Mom did not give the color I wish but she contributes in many other ways. We must have patience.

As you can see our color is all over the place. It will be a couple of generations more before we are consistent. It is always amazing to me how strong the "red heads" color is from the Boer lines. We also know they will contribute in other ways. One brick/block at a time.

Topic for discussion COLOR. Is this a brown color? Red? Reddish brown? Brownish red? I have read a lot about the genetics of goat color in the last couple of years. I like the coat length and texture we are getting. But it also depends on the sun angle 😁 Please share your thoughts.
