The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) requires water utilities to have a cross connection control program in place to protect drinking water systems from contamination.
One of the ways that contamination can get into the water system is through a cross connection. A cross connection can be an actual or potential connection between a drinking water supply and a source of contamination.
The main way to prevent contamination through a cross connection is by a backflow preventer and regular testing is required in order to ensure that your device remains in proper working order. Testing in Georgetown Township is conducted by HydroCorp and
includes two elements: testing the backflow assembly and an on-site inspection.
For more information on acquiring a backflow preventer or having yours inspected, please visit https://www.gtwp.com/373/Cross-Connection-Program

Last Wednesday, the Georgetown Township Fire Department celebrated the graduation of seven new firefighters from the Fire Academy. From January through June, these dedicated individuals attended classes two days a week and numerous Saturdays to complete their training. This accomplishment represents a tremendous commitment—not only from the firefighters themselves, but also from their families, friends, and field training officers who stood beside them throughout the journey.
Our newest firefighters are:
Station 1
• Brayden Sikkema
• Jared Vos
• Caleb Walcott
Station 2
• Eric Benjamin
• Jack Bydalek
• William Marth
Station 3
• Emma Rork
As part of the graduation ceremony, each firefighter had the honor of choosing a family member, fire officer, or friend to pin on their badge, marking the completion of the academy. One especially meaningful moment was seeing Brayden Sikkema’s mother pin his badge.
Many of us remember Brayden as a young boy spending time at the fire station with his father, Kevin Sikkema, a former Georgetown firefighter. Kevin sadly lost his battle with cancer 10 years ago, but his passion for the fire service clearly lives on through Brayden. Today, Brayden proudly serves at Georgetown Station 1, continuing the legacy his father helped build.
Congratulations to all of our new firefighters on this outstanding achievement. We are proud of your hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving our community. We look forward to seeing the impact each of you will make in the years ahead.

The Georgetown Township Fire Department loves getting out into the community! On the last day of school, Sandy Hill students got some assistance cooling off before the end of school.
On Tuesday, GTFD had a great time assisting the Ottawa County Sheriff department with their annual Super Cool Sheriff's School at Rebounderz. Nearly 200 fourth graders spent the day with the fire crews, touring equipment, and watching a car get cut with the jaws of life. A big thank you to Ottawa County Sheriff's Department for the invitation to participate!
