2025 Route 66 Heritage Festival Spotlight: Backwood County.

Backwood County is a rising country-rock band rooted in the small town of Jay, Oklahoma. Made up of cousins Indiana Jeffries (lead guitar, vocals), Tucker Sperry (drums), and Beau Jeffries (bass, backing vocals), the band delivers a gritty, heartfelt sound shaped by family ties and small-town life.

Formed in 2019 in a garage, the band began as a duo with Indiana and Tucker jamming after school. Over time, they cycled through a few bassists before Beau officially joined the lineup, locking in the sound and chemistry that defines Backwood County today.

Their breakthrough came in 2021 when they won the Battle of the Bands in Miami, Oklahoma, earning them a coveted opening slot at the annual Heritage Festival. Since then, they’ve played bigger stages and opened for several well-known acts—bringing raw energy and authenticity to every performance.

Now returning for their third time at the Heritage Festival, the band says, “We love Miami—it feels like home.”
