Several members and potential members of Jarrell CERT attended a Shelter Operation training this past Monday night and Saturday morning hosted by the American Red Cross in Cedar Park. With classroom instruction as well as simulations, participants now have a good understanding on how to set up, staff and close an emergency shelter. Thanks to all who partook in the training opportunity!

NEW TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

FloodWarn is a new flood and flash flood training offered by the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio TX office. Training is offered to the general public free of charge and will teach and inform the audience on how to protect themselves from the most deadly weather hazard, flooding. The meteorology behind flooding will be examined and past flash flood events that have affected the area will be reviewed. We will show some websites and tools that the public can use to not only monitor flooding in the area, but to know what areas to avoid. The second part of the training will allow city and county officials to discuss what citizens can do to avoid flooding, signup for emergency notification messages, learn about recent flood mitigation projects, as well as learn about the different river/creek watersheds where you live and the dangers that they bring.

This training will be held Wednesday, October 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. in Round Rock.

Contact us at [email protected] if you would like to be registered to attend.
