Last day of the 4th Junior Fire/Police Cadet Academy in the books! 🚒 🚓

Today we got to spend the day at the Sonterra Pool, courtesy of Sonterra Parks & Rec.

Jarrell ISD PD cooked pancakes and sausage for breakfast. Thankfully the rain held out on us and we were able to swim.

H-E-B donated hot dogs and buns for us to enjoy for lunch, as well as cookies & Gatorade from Kristy Navarette at Sphere Realty, and chips from Officer Loney. Thank you to the JFR A-Shift crews for cooking the hotdogs.

And to conclude, we had a graduation ceremony recognizing our cadets, sponsors, and staff who all made this possible. We are so grateful to be able to host this camp for the community in partnership with Jarrell ISD PD and have enjoyed spending the last two weeks with the kids.

A special thank you to Jarrell ISD for allowing us to use Jarrell Ranch Middle School for this camp.

Day 9 of 10 in the books for the 4th Annual Junior Cadet Summer Camp.

Today the kids went through the inflatable fire safety house that was obtained through a grant from State Farm. The tool teaches kids the value of preparing your home to be safe in numerous way, not just fire.

They got a tour of firehouse #1 downtown and learned about how the firefighters live day to day.

Next the navigated a job specific obstacle course that included removing a victim outside a home on fire and shooting water stream at simulated fire targets.

Finally we wrapped up the last few cadets who had not had their turn climbing the 105’ aerial ladder.

The final day is set for tomorrow at Sonterra Pool followed by the graduation ceremony from the first 2 week program. Graduation will be at Jarrell Ranch Middle School from 6-7pm.

It no joke outside today… some predictions are saying 95 degrees with as high as 119 degree heat index at the 3 and 4:00 hour

102 by noon and 100+ heat index through 8pm.

06/17/2026

In case you missed it… or haven’t heard yet.

The forecast heat index tomorrow (Thursday 6/17) is predicted to be as high as 114 degrees!!! The cooling will be very slow with heat index as high as 111 even into the evening time.

1) If you can avoid being outside do so.

2) If you must get outside work done, plan it for early morning.

3) This summer remember the following heat tips:

- Wear lightweight, light colored & loose fitting & breathable clothing.

- Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol & sugary drinks.

- Sunscreen & a Hat

- Take frequent breaks from the heat in AC or shade.

- Don’t leave pets in your car. Temps can quickly surpass 120 degrees inside your car even with windows cracked open.

- Check on each other, especially elders neighbors, friends and relatives.

- Know the symptoms
(Thirst, Cramps, fatigue, exhaustion, extreme sweating or worse stopped sweating, short of breath, confusion, unconsciousness)

- If any doubt call 911 and get the person to cool air or shade.

Start Safe & Stay Safe!

The 4th annual cadet camp continues this week.
Today, the cadets learned skills that literally may save a life one day.

1) Officer Herring led hands only CPR.

2) Driver Allison and FF Wade taught kids what to do if someone is choking by using the Heimlich maneuver.

3) Driver Aviles and FF Jackson taught kids how to stop severe bleeding including use of a tourniquet.

Finally, Sonterra Parks and Rec Pool staff talked to the kids about water safety as we approach the first day of summer.

The camp continues through Friday. We will update the final days and the graduation ceremony on Friday evening.

The first week of 2 weeks at cadet summer camp is complete and what a great week it was!!

Before I share day 5… let me say that I put a pencil to it and the number of people that it takes to make this program work… not including the kids themselves and their families, just those who chip in to make it even possible… is about 100 give or take!!! 100!

Today we recognize and thank our food sponsors for breakfast and lunch since Fridays do not offer the summer lunch program.

Breakfast Tacos - Rodriguez Mexican Food in Jarrell sponsored by R Bank

Donuts - Shipley’s and David Rodriguez with 1-800-Board Up.

Chicken Biscuits - Whataburger Georgetown.

Lunch - Dominos Pizza

Thanks to our food sponsors today! Now on to the events.

Kids continued to learn ropes and knots and climbed the aerial ladder.
Additionally they were taught how to PASS… Pull Aim Squeeze & Sweep use of a fire extinguisher. Finally they saw and practiced how to secure a patient to a spine board or basket for transport after a traumatic injury.

The week has been just awesome and the partnership with Jarrell Fire and Jarrell ISD Police is even better than we imagined! It gives the kids and extra week AND gives them insights to the things that fire and police do.

Looking forward to another amazing week in week 2.

Day 3 of the 4th Annual Junior Cadets Summer Camp. It’s been a great start to the 2026 program!

Today the cadets continued to work on their knots and continued taking turns climbing the 105 foot aerial ladder.

Additionally cadets were taught basic American Flag etiquette, practice a group trust and teamwork course, heard a great rundown of the things our 9-11 dispatchers do to support first responders.

In the afternoon they experienced an awesome touch a truck event from:
- PHI Medical Helicopter
- SAS Towing
- Williamson Co. EMS Ambulance
- Williamson Co. Sheriff Office
- Jarrell ISD Police
- Jarrell Fire

It was another great day!
Please join us as we look back on this morning. Enjoy the photos!
