I know that seasons come and go
No one’s pretending things won’t change
But you’ve got some things you say you know
And I don’t know why you won’t engage

Dust and Fog

So much wandering
And feeling aimless on the road
Fatigue sets in
And time passes slow
People say it’s normal
Cause most of us feel the same
The dust and fog
Are all that we know

Are we doomed to keep on falling
In the same old ways?
Is there hope of ever growing
Past our mistakes?

Easy isn’t always right
We walk by faith and not by sight
Why do we default so often
To the path that’s be4ten?
We look around to find our cues
And act like there’s nothing to lose
Carnal-minded ex*****on
Renders us defeated

It’s hard to take for granted
What you’re grateful to receive Discontentment spreads
Like a plague
Those who work among us
Lay their lives down out of love
So many of us
Continue to take

And then before you know it
It’s time to charge
But we see them all as giants
And lay down arms

Easy isn’t always right

Mazes

Navigating mazes
Of self-congratulations
Isn’t it easy to put down
The ones you can’t see?

Would we speak so harshly
If we saw them as family?
Where did we get these attitudes
Of holier than?

Yeah all this talk
And all these thoughts of innovation
Feel important
We’ve made it clear
We’re about the here and now

Are we no longer
Giving honor to the ones
Who’ve gone before us?
It’s not idolatry
It’s love

If Scripture gives distinction
And places of position
To the ones we condescend
Who do we trust?

Well all this talk
And all these thoughts
Of speculation feel important
Why do we assume
That we have room to judge?

Are we withholding grace
And giving place to
Upside down conjecture?
Why do we so often
Get it wrong?

Cause we’re good at giving passes
And we’re friendly toward the sins
Right in our midst
Don’t speak so loudly
When it’s our home

Yeah we’re finding lots of grace for
The unrepentant hearts of apathy
And in the meantime
Having our homes and hearts
Infused with leaven

All this talk and all these thoughts
Of reservation feel important
Why do we not fear
Getting it wrong?

Cause we’re good at giving passes
And we’re friendly toward the sins
Right in our midst
Don’t speak so loudly
When it’s our home
Yeah we’re finding lots of grace for
The unrepentant hearts of apathy
And in the meantime
Having our homes and hearts
Infused with leaven

Never alone
Surrounded by a cloud of watchers
What we have sown
Will come to light in our hereafter

Looking for the reason
Cater to the doubt
Deify our season
Leave the wonders out

We let the catchphrase worship circulate
Safe ideas lead the way
We try real hard not to offend Redefining “born again”

Right now
Someone tell me how
Religion can evolve
From partly truth
Mostly self-love
We’ve strayed
So far from the Way
Creating new beliefs
Redeveloping Jesus
And making Him more like us

Can what began in the Spirit
Be perfected in the flesh?
If it’s tailored truth we’ll hear it
And celebrate its relevance

So much of church practice leans feminist
And panders to the atheist
We factor in what doubters say
And let the glory fade away
