Did you know the feeling of disgust that shapes some of your moral judgments actually starts in your body? A 2019 study found that ginger, which reduces nausea, lowered feelings of disgust toward purity-offending stimuli and also reduced the severity of judgments toward moderately severe purity-based moral violations. Psychological disgust is causally rooted in physiological nausea. Your physical state influences how you think and evaluate the world. Chronic gut dysfunction can color perception in ways most people never consider.
Most people know avocados are healthy, but few know what the clinical trials actually show. A 2021 review in Nutrients looked at 19 clinical trials on Hass avocados. It found four main effects: better lipid profiles and blood vessel function, support for weight and visceral fat, modest cognitive benefits especially in executive function, and improved gut microbiota. The key features are its monounsaturated fat, viscous fiber, low energy density, and ability to boost carotenoid absorption. Not a magic bullet, but useful as part of a broader metabolic approach.

Is fatigue making it impossible to enjoy life? That deep exhaustion steals your days. Most people are told to just get more sleep or push through. That rarely works long term. Fatigue is usually a signal that several systems are under strain at once — blood sugar, inflammation, mitochondria, and sleep quality. When those pieces improve, endurance returns and life feels possible again.
Have you ever wondered why gluten problems and autoimmune gut issues have risen so sharply? A 2013 paper in Interdisciplinary Toxicology linked glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, to celiac disease and gluten intolerance. The authors propose it disrupts gut bacteria, inhibits detoxification enzymes, chelates minerals, and depletes certain amino acids. Those changes can damage the intestinal barrier and set the stage for autoimmune reactions. Glyphosate is applied to the large majority of U.S. corn and soybean acres and is also used on wheat as a pre-harvest desiccant. Residues end up in many common grain products. Understanding these environmental drivers is part of addressing root causes.
Are you confused by all the health advice online? Editors of major journals have said that much of the published scientific literature, perhaps half may simply be untrue. A Mayo Clinic study found that only 12 percent of patients seeking a second opinion left with their original diagnosis confirmed. In 88 percent of cases it was changed or refined. Epigenetics is how lifestyle turns genes on or off without changing the DNA itself. A pilot trial showed an 8-week diet and lifestyle program could reverse measured epigenetic age. Metabolic dysfunction is driven by gene expression patterns that lifestyle can influence. If the noise has left you stuck, there is a clearer path.

Heart Health: Whole Fruit vs Juice. Most people treat whole fruit and 100% fruit juice as interchangeable. The data says otherwise. A large analysis of 2019 BRFSS data looked at more than 371,000 U.S. adults and their reported fruit habits. Adults who reported high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart attack, or coronary heart disease ate whole fruit less often. These differences held after adjusting for age, education, income, and smoking status. Fruit juice results were mixed and less consistent. Whole fruit showed the clearer association with better cardiovascular status. Juice removes the fiber and much of the structure that comes with the whole fruit. That difference may matter for metabolic and heart health. When it comes to fruit, the form you choose appears to matter.
New animal-free dairy products made with lab-fermented milk proteins are hitting the shelves. The marketing sounds clean, but we have almost no long-term human data on what these new compounds do in the body over five or ten years. We’ve seen this pattern before. Trans fats were introduced in the early 1900s and widely used for decades. They were even promoted as healthier. It took until the 1990s for the science to clearly show the heart risks, and the FDA didn’t act until 2015. Independent testing of some precision-fermentation dairy products has found dozens of compounds that have never been part of the human diet. If you avoid regular dairy, simpler options like plain almond or soy milk still exist. Just choose versions without a long list of artificial additives.
Most people are shocked when I tell them that the lifestyle changes they’re making are not going to fix the problem. There’s a reason for that.
I’m a seven-year cancer survivor. I got there because of my own research, not because of any real help from the medical community. After surgery I asked my oncologist how to keep it from coming back. His answer was basically that prevention wasn’t his area.
So I took it into my own hands. I’ve studied over 4,000 clinical papers on epigenetics — how lifestyle influences gene expression and health. What I found is that there are almost always multiple lifestyle factors driving metabolic dysfunction, whether it’s diabetes, COPD, or many other chronic conditions. One or two hacks will never be enough.
This is my mission now: to teach anyone who’s interested how to address the full picture. It can make a huge difference in your life.

Berberine, A1C, blood sugar and insulin resistance. Three solid pieces of evidence: a randomized trial in metabolic syndrome and two recent meta-analyses of randomized trials. In the 2013 trial, people with metabolic syndrome took 500 mg of berberine three times a day for three months. 36% no longer met the criteria for metabolic syndrome. Insulin sensitivity improved. Triglycerides, waist circumference, and blood pressure dropped. A 2023 meta-analysis of randomized trials found berberine lowered fasting glucose, HbA1c, fasting insulin, and HOMA-IR. Another meta-analysis in people with type 2 diabetes showed the same pattern: better blood sugar control, improved insulin resistance, and healthier lipid numbers. Medications can lower numbers quickly. Berberine’s strength is supporting the underlying metabolic processes that drive insulin resistance in the first place. Understanding the root drivers still matters more than any single compound.
What if the early inflammatory response that feels so uncomfortable is actually protecting you from chronic pain? A 2022 study published in Science Translational Medicine looked at people with acute low back pain and followed them for three months. Those whose pain resolved showed a strong early activation of neutrophils. Those whose pain became chronic showed almost no change in these immune pathways. In animal models, giving steroids or NSAIDs early on reduced pain in the short term but prolonged the overall duration of pain. UK Biobank data also showed higher risk of persistent pain in people who took NSAIDs for acute back pain. A healthy, time-limited inflammatory response appears to be part of the recovery process. Suppressing it too early may interfere with that process.
