My crystalline glazes are formulated to be much less runny than most, but sometimes when I have a vase like this one that doesn't have a foot ring I glaze all the way to the bottom of the pot having attached a small pedestal so I don't have to worry about the glaze movement. This one doesn't have much glaze over the joint between the pedestal and the pot, so a few taps with the hammer is all it takes to get it off. Usually the glaze over the joint is pretty strong, but sometimes it's not...like this one that snapped right off and shattered, oops!

A former student/friend is in labor tonight. I figured while I'm glazing I'd do a one off ornament for the new addition. A calligrapher I am not 😄

Cleaning up slip-cast ornaments is the most time consuming and tedious part of the process. I make all my own molds, and the tolerance at the seam produces a little more flashing than I'd like. The slip creeps into the gap a bit. This seam has to be trimmed and smoothed well so it doesn't show under the glaze. The whole surface is smoothed with soft sponges to blend the tool marks and any bumps. cottrellart.etsy.com

I love the depth and variety of visual texture in this piece. Crystals are a bit overpopulated but I'm not complaining
