Today, we honor Jacksonville native James Weldon Johnson on his birthday.
A poet, lawyer, diplomat, and civil rights leader best known as the co-creator of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, often referred to as the Black National Anthem, whose work and words continue to inspire generations and shape our city more than a century later.
