Here's some more photos relating to Jimmy's 'On this day...' post- J immy Page and Bad Company at Memorial Stadium, Austin, Texas from 1st September 1974

'They (Bad Company) were signed to Led Zeppelin’s Swan Song label in 1974 and made their live debut at Newcastle's City Hall on 9th March of that year. They received rave reviews for both their debut album and their concert performances. Peter Grant and Jimmy flew out to America to go and support the band who were on their first US tour.

The concert named 'The First Annual Texas Size Rompin' Stompin' Barn and Dance and Barbecue', a fundraiser for US Student Government. Bad Company were first on the bill that also featured, Joe Cocker, Santana and headliners ZZ Top. The music began at 3.00 pm in 90 plus degree heat in front of 80000 people. Peter and Jimmy watched them from the side of the stage and Jimmy joined them for their encore 'Rock Me Baby'
I had no idea that Jimmy Page would be there until I arrived. Everything seemed rather casual so I did what I usually do which was to follow them to the Stadium, documenting the excitement as it unfolded. The crowded stadium provided a spectacular event as these images reflect.' Carl Dunn

Bad Company Turns 50: The Wall Street Journal published a sprawling piece Tuesday (June 25) on the British rock band Bad Company celebrating its 50th anniversary of its hit-heavy debut album “Bad Company”.

The ‘70s supergroup consisted of members of the era’s second-tier UK rock, glam and progressive rock bands which included Free, Mott The Hoople and King Crimson.

To add more British rock royalty to the mix, Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant handled the band’s business affairs and the band’s now-defunct label Swan Records was owned by Led Zeppelin.

During the ‘70s, Bad Company was a veritable hit machine: its debut album had been certified five times platinum in the U.S. and became one of the top 50 albums during that decade. One of those songs, “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love” (watch video) reached number five on the U.S. charts in 1974. The band later recorded a string of other hits on its next two albums and its songs remain classic rock radio staples.

The Journal article summed up the band’s musical style and impact on fans when it first surfaced on the rock scene. The band’s debut album “stripped hard rock to its primal core — soulful vocals, a bouncing bass, ringing guitars, thundering drums and lyrics that were clear and easy to remember. An uncomplicated formula at that time sounded great when played loud on bedroom stereos and sent fans off to arena ticket lines.”
