State of the South Conference Brings Southern Voices, History and Community Action to Jacksonville | LISC Jacksonville 06/03/2026

This spring, Jacksonville had the honor of hosting the 2026 State of the South Conference, welcoming more than 150 community leaders, artists, storytellers, organizers, and residents from across the South.

Held at Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in partnership with MDC and LISC Jacksonville, the multi-day convening sparked meaningful conversations around community resilience, cultural preservation, displacement, and the power of storytelling. From a river tour of Jacksonville's Northside with local historian Ennis Davis to the "Duval Displaced, Duval Dis Place" art exhibit at Yellow House, the conference celebrated the culture, history, and voices that make our communities worth fighting for.
