Today is an exciting day for our local building industry!

We’re proud to celebrate a major milestone for the Home Builders Association of Jackson, Hillsdale & Lenawee as the Professional Women in Building (PWB) Council is officially chartered by the National Association of Home Builders. This achievement is the result of months of dedication from an incredible group of women committed to strengthening our industry, supporting one another, developing future leaders, and giving back to the communities we serve.

Please join us in congratulating PWB Chair Casey Barratt, Vice Chair Cat Fosgate, Secretary Nicole Johnson, and the entire founding Professional Women in Building Council on this outstanding accomplishment!

As their first community impact initiative, the PWB Council is launching 👜 Pack a Purse — a donation drive to support women entering local shelters throughout Jackson, Hillsdale, and Lenawee Counties.

We’re encouraging our friends, partners, and community members to help by donating new or gently used purses filled with personal care essentials such as:

✔️ Feminine hygiene products
✔️ Shampoo & Conditioner
✔️ Toothbrushes & Toothpaste
✔️ Soap & Body Wash
✔️ Hair Brushes & Combs
✔️ Lotion
✔️ Lip Balm

Donations can be dropped off at the HBA office or brought to the HBA Car Show & Family Fun Night on July 23rd.

With the groundwork complete and everything in place, the next phase of construction is right around the corner. There’s nothing quite like seeing months of planning and preparation come together as a home begins to take shape.

What should have been the realization of a dream quickly turned into a nightmare.

Just weeks after purchasing a home for herself and her son, Malcolm, Marissa discovered a crushed sewer line beneath Page Avenue. What began as a plumbing issue became a major excavation and infrastructure project with repair costs exceeding $40,000.

For more than seven months, Marissa and Malcolm have relied on a portable toilet outside their home. Simple things many of us take for granted, like using a bathroom, taking a shower, or doing laundry at home, have become nearly impossible.

Marissa, an employee of the Community Action Agency who spends her days helping others, now finds herself in need of support from the community she serves.

Through a GoFundMe campaign - link 👇- nearly $9,800 has already been raised, but a significant gap remains.

The HBA's Builders Care program is working to bring together contractors, suppliers, lenders, nonprofits, government partners, and community members to help find a path forward for this family.
