A little patriotic reboot in the front window in Marble Hill!
It's difficult to find a glare-free angle from the outside... And difficult to not have a silhouette from the inside. (Windows are fantastic...and hard. πŸ˜‚)

Welcome to the week... Come visit us in either location and then make your way up and down the streets to visit our amazing neighbors!

{I'll just be sweating it out in Arkansas...Did I mention that we have a cook schedule for the week and today is my cook day? Prepping and cooking dinner for the fam... 80ish are still here! πŸ˜‹πŸŽ‰)

And y'all are in luck... I'm gone all week so you get to see it before I do! 🀩

{Late post... I stayed up too late playing Hand & Foot! πŸƒ}

So... My mom was #2 of 8 children and the first girl. In fact, she didn't get a sister until #7 came along 15 years later. But she was surrounded by brothers and she was a "mom" type nearly from birth. Her mother began leaving her in charge at a very early age. One particular time she was left at home with her brothers (I'm not sure of her actual age, but it was single digits... 6-7, maybe), Grandma told her NOT to clean the mirror on the dresser while she was out of the house. (Mom apparently also always loved to clean!)

Well, Mom *really* wanted to clean that mirror, so she climbed up onto the dresser and did just that. Her little brother, Johnny ( #3) was right there with her and lost a pretty significant chunk of his ear when that mirror fell and broke!

These dressers don't have such dramatic stories, that we know of, but their small chips, blemishes, and broken mirrors likely hold stories of their past lives and the people they lived with.

I think those flaws make them more special. 80-100 year-old furniture shouldn't still be perfect... It has history!

Imagine the stories these pieces could tell!!

These and so many others available at Newfound Joy...

This week is our annual family reunion... Since 1969 my mom's side of the family has camped together for a week... The second week of June. This is our 58th year. Somewhere along the way, someone had the idea to number each family member according to when they entered the family (whether by birth, marriage, or adoption). Numbers began with Mom and her seven siblings and have continued down through generations. Mom was #2...Dad, the first in-law, was #9. I'm #31... You get the idea.

It took from 1932 until 2001 to grow to 100 members... And #100 is one of our girls! Imagine how fun it was for our daughter, #100 to welcome their daughter, #200 to the family in April! (And we've added four more members since then!)

Maybe it's a little weird to number your family members...but we're a little weird. Possibly even weirder is that we LOVE getting together for this week. We count down the days...we take vacation days or personal days and we come to Camp. We eat, we laugh, we play games, we worship together, we sing, we reminisce, we tell and retell stories, we laugh more, eat more, and cry when it's over! We know each other and we're friends.

There aren't a lot of families like ours... And that's too bad... It's special.

Some have passed on... But their memories and examples remain. Present in our hearts and our traditions...and part of our heritage.

This is our branch of the family tree as represented this year... the Stinnett branch. (Only 11 of our 47 got to be at Camp this year... Plus a cousin from Dad's side who join us when they can!)

I'll be soaking up the week of family this week. (Scott and Savannah are graciously covering a couple of days in the shop so that Lili and I get to stay)
I won't see y'all for a few days and may not respond as quickly as usual. Sorry, not sorry.

Happy Monday, Newfound Friends! I'll see y'all when I'm back!

ICYMI...

Dinosaurs are loose all over Marble Hill! Lili and I had some fun decorating our old gal, but we can't decide what her name should be!

Drop your suggestions in the comments! πŸ‘‡πŸ»

A year ago we spent the first night of our annual family reunion camping trip getting reports of a fire in Uptown Jackson...and Scott drove 5 hours home just to get a look and be sure the shop was okay.

A year ago the shop owners on High Street banded together to Rise & Rebuild after the devastating fire that destroyed two businesses and damaged several others.

A year ago our little Uptown community began growing in ways we didn't know we needed. We persevered through challenges and supported each other in creative ways to keep businesses open even though storefronts were boarded up. We planned and worked together to rebuild.

A year later, we're still working, still planning, still standing...a little taller...a little stronger...and a lot more united as a group of small businesses working together to support each other and grow into The Shoppes of Uptown Jackson.

A year ago we asked for your help to come out and support us at the Rise+Rebuild fundraiser event. And YOU DID! This year we ask you to come again... But this time to celebrate!

We want to celebrate YOU!! So we're throwing a summer block party to thank y'all for supporting each of us and our small businesses!

Join us on Saturday, June 20 for 🌼 South High Summer Fest in Uptown Jackson: a day of fun for the whole family! The event is free and we have thank you gifts, treats, specials, and special guests to share with y'all! Don't miss out!!

Thank you for supporting us... For picking us up when we were down... And for continuing to choose local. We live in the best community and we are so thankful for you!

Is this week FLYING for anyone else?!

My goodness... I need a bonus day in here somewhere to get everything done! πŸ˜‚ I'm guessing that's not going to happen, so we'll do the best we can!

Finally got things back in order in Jackson... It only took three days!

Y'all stop by and see what goodies are calling your name!
