Those crazy eyes tho! We don’t know the story here but a reminder to stay AT LEAST 25 yards (23 meters) away from Moose in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks! Especially in rut! Also, if you find yourself in this sitch, bear spray also works on moose.

Bluetooth speaker ✅ unsuspecting friend ✅ 😂🤣😂 we def don’t condone this, it’s a good way to get accidentally bear sprayed here in Yellowstone and Grand Teton grizzly country BUUUUUUUUT it sure is funny! Keeping this idea in my back pocket for the next TBR team campout! Seriously tho: if you’re visiting the GYE, Red Lodge, MT, Big Sky, MT, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Glacier National Parks… anywhere in grizzly country, always carry bear spray! Park ranger as well as Bear Aware, the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee, and numerous other groups recommend ONE CAN PER ADULT for anyone visiting, recreating, working, or hiking in bear habitat. It’s not enough to JUST carry bear spray, you should know how to use it and take deescalation steps when/if you encounter a bear on your trip. Don’t let bears deter or scare you, just know what to do and how to be safe!

Almost everybody we hand a can of bear spray to thinks it works like mace. It doesn’t.

Bear spray works basically like a fire extinguisher, but spicy. It dumps a huge cloud into the air and the bear runs into it. Wide, fast, covers ground. You aim in front of the bear, not at it.

And yeah, the stuff is potent. EPA caps it at 2% major capsaicinoids. Your keychain pepper spray is around 1% to 1.3%.

Ever cut jalapeños and then rubbed your eye? Multiply that, by A LOT!

The people who get in trouble aren’t always the ones who forgot their spray. It’s the ones who had it, panicked, and tried to aim it like a pistol.

If you’re hiking Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier, anywhere in grizzly country, learn this before you need it.

Save it. Send it to whoever’s coming with you.

Without knowing it, he reacted the best way possible in this situation! We don’t recommend being oblivious in bear country 😬 but to do recommend being CALM! If you’re hiking in Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Big Sky, Glacier or anywhere else in bear habitat, there are 3 main things to remember:

1. BE ALERT! Be bear aware, watch for tracks/scat/carcasses, make noise, hike in groups of 3+ when you can, don’t hike with headphones, listen and watch your surroundings.

2. STAY CALM! If you do come across a bear, don’t scream, don’t make sudden movements, back away slowly, and DO NOT run! These thing could trigger a chase instinct or a defensive attack.

3. CARRY BEAR SPRAY! Keep bear spray accessible, holster it on your hip, chest, or somewhere you can access it immediately. Know how it works!

Don’t be scared to hike in Yellowstone or Grand Teton National Parks, just do it prepared!

- Bears are naturally curious
- Make sure your bear resistant canister is always locked
- Store it away from camp: 100yrds recommended in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks from your tent, on the ground, hidden in brush or behind rocks, away from cliffs or water.
- Know the rules on types of canisters allowed
- Canisters aren’t JUST for food, use them for: trash, toiletries, sunscreen, feminine hygiene products, medication (especially coated pills), BUG spray/insect repellant, anything with even the slightest scent can attract bears, so store them correctly. Keep wildlife wild 🤙🏻
