Our thoughts are with the people of Floyd County, GA - Government at the loss of their historic courthouse on March 23rd, 2026. The National Registry building succumbed to a fire yesterday despite tremendous efforts from local fire services, complicated by high winds and dry conditions. We are grateful that all occupants were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.

As the centerpiece of the Jackson town square since 1898, the Butts County Courthouse has been used for over a century by the community. Its recent rehabilitation received a Preservation Award from the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. The project aimed to restore the historic features of the building, while repairing and replacing where needed. The courthouse is now home to several community organizations, maintaining the building’s spot as a community centerpiece.
