One of the best parts of public service is the opportunity to work alongside people who care deeply about their communities.

I've had that opportunity with Jackson County Commissioner John L. Willis.

Commissioner Willis and I currently serve together on the Jackson County Land Bank Authority, where we've worked on issues involving housing, redevelopment, neighborhood investment, and community growth. Through that work, he's seen me prepare, ask questions, listen to different perspectives, and take public responsibilities seriously.

Through his leadership and service, John has worked to make our community stronger, more welcoming, and more responsive to the needs of residents. His support means a great deal because it comes from someone who has seen my work firsthand.

Why I Serve.

I am sometimes ask why I serve on boards, commissions, and community organizations.

The answer is simple.

When there's work to do, I show up.

Over the years, I've worked on issues involving taxation, redevelopment, elections, housing, public safety, and community development. Different issues. Same responsibility.

Listen. Learn. Do the work.

I've never viewed public service as a title.

I've always viewed it as a responsibility.

I am humbled to have earned the support of Karen Coffman - Jackson County Treasurer.

Over the past several months, I've had the opportunity to learn from her years of experience in public service and public stewardship.

The City Treasurer's Office is entrusted with safeguarding City funds, collecting our taxes, and carrying out important fiduciary responsibilities on our behalf as taxpayers.

Those responsibilities require stewardship, transparency, accountability, collaboration, and public trust.

For over 16 years, I've served in administrative, supervisory, and leadership roles, helping oversee programs, personnel, and resources while working with others to address concerns and navigate complex challenges.

I've also volunteered with state organizations and served on local boards and commissions dealing with advocacy, taxation, assessments, housing, equity, and community development.

Decisions are rarely simple when it comes to City Planning Commission

Strong communities are built through thoughtful planning, cooperation, and a willingness to think beyond today's concerns.

My time on the City Planning Commission has reinforced the importance of sound judgment, long-term thinking, and balancing competing interests while keeping the community's future in mind.
Folks come to City Hall with different perspectives and priorities: housing, neighborhood redevelopment, new business opportunities, and the future of specific properties.

The challenge is not choosing a side. The challenge is listening carefully, weighing the facts, and making decisions that serve the broader interests of the community.

We've all watched neighborhoods change, businesses open and close, properties redevelop, and new opportunities emerge. The decisions we make today help shape what Jackson will look like years from now.

Those same principles are important in the Treasurer's Office. Managing public resources requires looking beyond immediate needs, addressing concerns, and making decisions that serve the long-term interests of the community.

Serving as Secretary on the Jackson County Land Bank Authority has reinforced an important lesson: stewardship is about preparing for the future.

Housing, redevelopment, and neighborhood investment all require long-term thinking. Strong communities don't happen by accident. They grow through responsible decisions, collaboration, and a commitment to the public good.

My service on the Land Bank Authority has shown me that progress depends on residents, local governments, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations working together toward shared goals.

I've also learned that stewardship means looking beyond today's challenges and considering what we leave behind for future generations.

Those lessons extend beyond redevelopment. They are principles of good government and public service.
