John Willis, Chief Equity Officer and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the City of Jackson, emphasized the importance of community participation.
"The City of Jackson sees the value in equity, but where do we go from here? We need to maintain momentum in this commitment to making real changes in equity. We know there have been meetings like this in the past to address equity, but nothing with this direct focus and scale. The city is changing direction. I know they say big ships turn slowly, but look around you. This ship is truly turning. The data we collect on April 22 will give us an honest benchmark of where we are and fuel the action plan that takes us where we need to be. But we cannot get there without you. Join us at the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Hall at 6:30 p.m. and Speak Up, Jackson, because this time it counts."
Feedback gathered during the session will help inform recommendations from the Racial Equity Commission to the Mayor and City Council. Attendees will also be entered into a raffle for the opportunity to win one of six $50 gift cards.

These groups of resident volunteers assist City government with enforcing ordinances, resolving conflicts, initiating special projects and advising the City Council.
Each board/commission is focused on a particular area, such as police oversight, parks and recreation, public art, racial equity, the environment, historic preservation, planning, affordable housing and more!
Interested applicants may submit a Board/Commission Application on the City website: https://www.cityofjackson.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1236
