Laird + Smithers not only provides Structural Engineering services for new construction and historical projects, we also provide Civil Engineering services.

One of our projects currently under construction is the UMMC Center for Emergency Services. This 27,500 square foot building will house helicopters (in addition to a Helipad) for UMMC and other emergency vehicles used for statewide emergency response. It will also be used as a training facility for emergency personnel. This center will be a great asset to the state of MS in those unfortunate circumstances where time is of the essence.

Laird + Smithers provided civil engineering services for the approximately 9.5 acre site, including a 75 space parking lot and detention pond. Along with providing engineering services for grading, drainage, utilities and other typical site work items, the project includes a 375 foot long retaining wall which provides interstate frontage for UMMC.

At Laird + Smithers, the past often collides with the present.

It’s an honor to be asked to look at the ‪Eudora Welty House‬. The ‪Eudora Welty House‬ was built in 1925, by Eudora’s parents. Eudora Welty composed all of her writings in this house.

While Laird + Smithers always enjoys being a part of history, we also appreciate being a part of projects that will build the future.

The construction of the new Northwest Rankin High School is well underway. These buildings will be responsible for holding those that will be building young minds for the future.

As school begins for most schools in the area this week, we were able to get a firsthand look at a couple of our school projects that are currently under construction.

With construction of the structure for the Children’s Hospital Expansion nearing completion, the construction of the 5 story parking garage is underway.

An exciting day for all involved! We were fortunate to be present with other professionals who have been integral to this project’s success. The structure is mostly complete, so the building will be rapidly taking shape over the next several months.
