Hey Jackson, donât miss this talk at WYSAW!
Sophia Schwartzâlocal freeski athlete, ski mountaineer, and community activistâwill go deep into risk vs. reward in the mountains.
During her presentation, will explain how we get meaning from backcountry recreation even when it can be dangerous.
âSpending time sliding on snow can create joy, connection, and growth in our lives,â she says.
âSome of the meaning we get in the mountains is inherently tied to risks, yet some of it is not. The goal of this talk is to use meaning and purpose as a framework to assess how we spend time in the mountains and how to build healthy fulfillment both on and off the slopes.â
Sophia spent three years on the US Freestyle Mogul Team, boppinâ down bumps as a World Cup athlete and National Champion. She transitioned to big mountain skiing in 2017 to follow her love of storytelling in the mountains.
Sophia works on the admin team at Teton Physical Therapy & Rehab as well as a fitness coach for Parkinsonâs patients through Rock Steady Boxing. Her favorite days are spent outside with friends and skiing with the Coombs Outdoors crew. Sophia is known for her kind smile and nerdy science facts.
