One of my favorite parts of being a contractor is traveling across Mississippi and contributing to the revitalization of our incredible small towns.

Today, I’m down in historic Woodville, MS, for a site visit. We’ve partnered with the Woodville Main Street Association to update and restore the facades of six historic downtown buildings. Our team is handling everything from brickwork and siding repairs to fresh paint to bring these beautiful spaces back to life.

Construir sobre la roca: ¿Estás edificando en vano?

Hace unos días fui a Vicksburg a cobrar una renta. Tengo un código particular para tocar la puerta que mi hijo menor llama el "landlord knock".

Me abrió un niño de unos 7 años, se me quedó mirando y gritó hacia adentro:
“¡Papi, llegó el moreno a buscar la renta!”

Por un segundo pensé en el meme de "I'm Dominican, I'm not black". Pero el Espíritu Santo me dio una dosis de realidad:

“Valera, es verdad: eres moreno y vienes por la renta. ¿Te vas a poner bruto?”.

Le sonreí al niño: “Sí, es verdad. ¡Dile que se apure que ando con prisa!”.

El carajito se sorprendió: *“¿Oh, tú hablas español?”*. Y le solté: “Oye, ¡por mi dinero y mi bendición, hablo hasta en chino si es necesario!”

Más allá de la risa, esto me dejó una reflexión profunda basada en el Salmo 127:1: Si Dios no está en tus planos, estás construyendo en vano.

En los negocios, la construcción y la vida, podemos tener las mejores estrategias o herramientas. Pero si no mantenemos la fe y la palabra como el centro de la estructura, edificamos sobre arena.

Asegurémonos de que cada proyecto tenga un cimiento inquebrantable.

In the Jackson, MS metro area, the affordable housing shortage is hitting families hard. At Valera Group, we aren’t standing by—we're doing something about it.

Transform: Renovate them into high-quality, safe, and efficient living spaces.

Partner: Work with local housing authorities to provide immediate stability for vulnerable families.

Big milestones happen one proposal at a time.

Today, the Valera Group team was on the ground at the beautiful City of Indianola, Mississippi, submitting proposals for the Homeowner Rehabilitation Grant Program.
Securing government contracts is a competitive process, but whether we get awarded this specific project or not, I wanted to take a moment to give a massive shoutout to the leadership and community at Indianola City Hall. From the atmosphere to the hospitality, the people here are truly excellent.
We are proud to bid on work that directly impacts and lifts up communities across Central Mississippi. If you are ever passing through Indianola, I highly recommend stopping by, checking out the town, and supporting the great things they are doing here.
