Claire Howell is an artist who has lives and works in the Jackson area. During the day, she teaches art to preschool to middleschool students. Teaching has kept her a student, and she loves being stretched and inspired. Recently she found joy in paperweaving with the textures and nuances of watercolored paper. Since highschool, Claire has been drawn to the wildness and freedom of watercolor. Her greatest challenge is painting from the live figure. Her more successful attempts are in this show. The rest are in a back closet to remind her that all practice is growing. Currently her other favorite subjects, inspired by the history of all the artists she teaches to her classes, are landscapes, fruit, and flowers. She is thankful to be among the other artists in this show, whose work has encouraged and inspired over this past year.

Edie and Rebecca, working collectively as Hiya Lovely , have been best friends since waiting tables at Hal and Mal’s in the ‘90s. We work with media from rocks to paper, fabric to wax—basically whatever we find interesting at the time. This year we’re bringing to the show a silly, colorful vibe that reflects our motto: Making things that make us happy!
