Join Cornell Hunger Relief on Thursday, May 6 (4:30PM EST) for our final G-Body meeting of the spring semester! We are hosting Natasha Thompson, CEO and President of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. She will be leading a webinar about the organization's operations called Food Banking 101, with a Q&A at the end. If you are interested in learning more about how to engage with food banks and hunger relief organizations in the community, register for the Zoom link! This event counts as a service hour.

Join CHR on Thursday April 15 at 4:30PM to learn about Friendship Donations Network (FDN), a food rescue organization based in Ithaca, NY. This General Body meeting will feature Meghan Sheehan Rosen as keynote speaker, who serves as FDN's Coordinator and is an expert on community food distribution. You can register for the Zoom link on Campus Groups. This meeting can also count towards service hour requirements. All Cornell students are welcome!

About Friendship Donations Network:
Friendship Donations Network is a food rescue organization located in Ithaca, NY. Our mission is to rescue fresh, nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away from stores and farms and redistribute it to neighbors facing food insecurity throughout Tompkins County and beyond. We provide food donations to over 50 community programs, including meal programs, food pantries, low-income housing communities, community organizations, and grassroots distribution. Each week 2,000 people are served, and nearly 1,400 pounds of good food is diverted each day from the landfill.

The Translator Interpreter Program (TIP) is facilitating an online discussion, "A Critical Exploration of Language Access and Equity with Fatema Sumar and Angelika Kraemer," featuring Fatema Sumar '01, the founder of TIP and President Biden-appointed Vice President of the Department of Compact Operations at the Millenium Challenge Corporation, and Angelika Kraemer, the faculty advisor of TIP, and the Director of the Language Resource Center at Cornell.

Our Story
CHR is a program of Cornell's Public Service Center that works throughout the year to achieve three primary objectives:
1. We work to raise to learn about local hunger issues and to educate the Cornell community on the issue of food insecurity in Ithaca and Tompkins County.
2. Throughout the year, we also participate in Mobile Food Pantry visits through the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. As part of these visits, we help distribute food to community members in need. Most recently, we volunteered with the Mobile Food Pantry to distribute fresh produce and other grocery items at the Salvation Army in Downtown Ithaca.
3. During the Spring semester, we run our Big Red Food Drive. The Big Red Food Drive is our campus-wide food donation effort that encourages students to use the unspent BRBs they have at the end of the year to purchase non-perishable food items that we then donate to Tompkins County residents who are unable to obtain enough food for themselves. We also encourage students to donate excess food items from their dorm rooms and apartments to this end-of-year food drive.
