Apply! Research Fellow at the National University of Laos (NUOL) and Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) evaluating the impact of establishing electronic auctions for cattle in Laos and Cambodia. Applications are due June 30, 2026.

The position is for 24 months (potentially extended for an additional 6 months) and is based in Vientiane (Laos), with expected fieldwork in Laos and Cambodia. SEAP is pleased to share this opportunity for librarians, archivists, paper conservators, and caretakers of documentary heritage in high-risk areas of South and Southeast Asia.

The Regional Course “Emergency Response for Documentary Heritage” will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Nov 30 to Dec 4, 2026. Costs for accommodation, meals, travel, visa expenses, and local transportation are covered.

Call for Papers! The 29th SEAP Graduate Student Conference: Breakdown and Reconfiguration

The 29th SEAP Graduate Student Conference will be held on October 22-23, 2026 at Cornell University’s Kahin Center for Advanced Research on Southeast Asia in Ithaca, New York, and on Zoom.

We welcome abstract submissions by July 15, 2026 of original work related to Southeast Asia by current graduate students, with preference to those who have already completed fieldwork and qualifying exams. Students who will have defended a dissertation by August 2026 are not eligible. Limited funding is available to support travel to Ithaca.

Congratulations to Evelyn Fettes, recipient of the 2026 Lisa Sansoucy Language Scholar Award!

The 2026 Lisa Sansoucy Language Scholar Award has been awarded to Evelyn Elmer Fettes, a Ph.D. candidate in linguistics. Evelyn completed advanced studies of Indonesian through the Shared Course Initiative (SCI) and is currently conducting field research in Indonesia for her dissertation on syntactic microvariation in nominal phrases of Western Malayo-Polynesian languages.

Her Indonesian professor and nominator, Jolanda Pandin, noted that Evelyn stands out as a lifelong language learner with a strong commitment to giving back to language-learning communities. After completing Cayuga Language and Culture I and II courses at Cornell, Evelyn served as a teaching assistant for the introductory level and facilitated Cayuga and Indonesian Conversation Hours at the LRC.
