The SA Election is important to securing comprehensive SA reform. Currently, there are open seats for Freshman Representative, Transfer Representative, Student with Disabilities Representative At-Large, Minority Students Representative At-Large, and Undergraduate Representative to the University Assembly.
For those interested, the SA Elections committee is hosting a candidate information meeting this evening at 9pm.

Students for SA Reform is proud to announce its plan to more equally apportion SA seats.* This will ensure that every student's vote is worth the same and help the SA live up to its democratic ideals. The full proposal can be read below.

*There would be no change to the non-college seats.

The Student Body has the right to know how its elected representatives are voting. As part of its reform platform, Students for SA Reform calls on the SA to record individual votes on all substantive motions.

Students for SA Reform is calling on the SA to take the long overdue step of releasing video and quality audio of its meetings and will continue to propose reforms to restore accountability, transparency, and integrity to the SA.

In the current SA elections structure, incumbents announce their intentions to seek office on the same day that challengers do, making it impossible to hold individual SA members to account or draw specific policy differences with incumbent members. In order to restore individual accountability and ensure that prospective challengers are not disadvantaged, Students for SA Reform is proposing its first substantive recommendation: current members of the SA must declare their intentions one week earlier than challengers.

This simple change would help the student body hold officeholders accountable for their actions and would level the playing field on election day. We are calling on the membership of the SA to put aside their own electoral interests and support this common-sense reform.
