On Sunday, EF&R, with help from Fire, City Fire Department responded to a two-alarm apartment fire on the 3000 block of 230th LN SE. An engine crew traveling to training happened to spot the smoke from the fire and quickly made their way to the scene. Under heavy fire conditions, firefighters were able to rescue two adult patients with life-threatening injuries and a dog from the apartment. Both patients are recovering at Harborview Medical Center at this time.
The fire was contained to one unit, but smoke and water damage affected six units in total. The Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire. Those on scene reported that there were no working smoke detectors in the building. Please remember to check your smoke detectors monthly and replace them every ten years.

Today is International Firefighters’ Day—a day dedicated to honoring the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of firefighters around the world.
As we mark this day, we also recognize National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, a time when our nation pauses to remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty. In their honor, today flags across the country are flown at half‑staff, a solemn reminder of the heroes who ran toward danger so others could be safe.
