Phone conversation with my mother yesterday. I’m in LA, she’s in Philly.

Mom: “I’m glad you called. You’re getting me off Facebook. I’m addicted.”

Me: “Yeah, Mom, I saw your account. You don’t have any photos on there.”

Mom: “Speaking of photos, you need Botox, Craig. Your forehead is all furrowed.”

Me: “I don’t know. You know I don’t like putting foreign substances into my body. Is there anything that’s not invasive?”

Mom: “Now Craig, you’re Mr Hollywood. They all do it out there.”

Me: “How would you know? You don’t even live here.”

Mom: “Because I read. Unlike you.”

Me: “I choose not to read or watch the news. It’s propaganda. They sell fear. They decide what’s important, then tell us how upset we’re supposed to be about it.”

Mom: “That’s nonsense. Where do you get your news from? how do you know what’s going on?“

Me: “All the fighting, all the division, all the outrage… it serves no purpose for me. The news is sponsored. If it’s sponsored, you’re never getting the whole truth. You’re getting what they want you to see, and negative click bait sells. It’s not good for our health, and it’s only what they want you to see.

Mom: “Well, what I see are wrinkles. And you need Botox.”

Me: “Maybe you’re right. Because my brow is furrowed now.”

Mom: “Okay. I gotta go.”

Me: “That was quick. Are you going somewhere?”

Mom: “I gotta get back to Facebook.”

Can’t make my networking meeting, so my assistant Alyson will present for me:

Good morning, everyone.

I’m filling in today for Craig Shoemaker. Most people know Craig as an award-winning comedian with a career that began in his junior year of high school and has spanned for decades.

But what he’s most passionate about today is something much deeper: the alchemy of laughter and its power to transform lives.

Craig created a program called The Seventh Sense, which teaches people how to use humor, self-awareness, and intentional laughter to improve their emotional well-being, relationships, resilience, and overall quality of life. After all, people may forget what you said, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel.

In addition to speaking and performing, Craig helps businesses, organizations, and individuals create more engaging presentations, memorable events, and meaningful connections through the power of humor and communication. LaughterWorx.com.

Tonight, Craig is leading one of his popular Laugh Baths, a guided experience that combines intentional laughter, breathwork, and connection techniques like Chuckle Chatter and Guided Laughitation to help people reduce stress and feel more energized.

And on June 20, he’ll be hosting a five-hour Recharge Retreat at Heaven’s Hill Estate Winery in Agoura Hills. It’s designed to help people reconnect with joy, playfulness, gratitude, and their authentic selves through laughter, journaling, processing, and community. Space is limited, so please sign up soon.

If you’d like to learn more about bringing Craig to your organization, attending a Laugh Bath, or joining the retreat, please visit laughterheals.com.

Oh. Craig wanted to start your day with a joke. And take notice before and after, how Laughter gives you a reset.

There are comedy clubs… and then there are sacred places.

In 1988, I was a kid in my 20s who had just arrived in Los Angeles from Philly with a dream to have a career in Standup Comedy.

One night, I was sitting in the audience at the legendary Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach.

The first comic on stage was a guy I had never heard of - David Spade. He looked so young that his opening line was, “Hi, I’m David Spade. I’m 10. My mom dropped me off. She’s shopping at Ralph’s.”

Next came Dana Carvey, who was doing this hilarious character he developed on SNL called The Church Lady - “isn’t that special?”

Headlining that night was Dennis Miller, fresh off his rise at SNL.

I remember sitting there thinking, “Man, if I could ever work this club, I’d be making it.”

The next year, comedy icon George Wallace introduced me to the club’s owner, Mike Lacey. Mike gave me a shot.

I seized it.

I’ve been performing there ever since. For over 3 decades, I’ve signed a brick, walked through those yellow curtains
and feel something I can’t quite explain. There’s a connection between me, that room, and the people of Hermosa Beach that has never gone away.

The audiences keep showing up. I’m grateful every single time.

The comedians love the place.

When Garry Shandling was preparing to host the Emmy Awards, he worked on material in front of my audience.

When Chris Rock was getting ready to host the Oscars, he came into the club to work out material. Backstage looked like a comedy think tank, with comics helping shape jokes to be heard around the world.

They still let me have my own night a couple times a year. This Thursday is one of those nights.

Developing material for my upcoming special, Still Standing Up. If you’re anywhere near SoCal -come!

I used to be in Amway, so let’s try it. Invite six friends. Tell them to invite six friends. Then tell them to invite six friends.

Let’s start the first comedy pyramid scheme. Pack the house. I’ll bring the soap.

Played Pickleball yesterday with my son, and rotated with a mom of a young daughter, whose daughter and husband also played.

When I was off the court and out of the game, I got to babysit their six month old.

it showed me once again how divine connection takes place when we laugh, smile, and giggle. I’m a perfect stranger to this baby, but he picked up my vibe and we connected. And his smile made me smile.

Children laugh 300 times a day, and adults laugh 20. I mean, really?

How about we all take a pause before posting something dark or negative? We’ve seen that before, let’s pump up the volume and surpass the kids, setting a true example, that Laughter is the greatest medicine.
