One of the best lessons I’ve learned in hiring:

Look for people who were born to do this.

Sure, we check for skills and culture fit — but when someone’s in their natural zone of genius, they light up. They enjoy the work, they push themselves further, and they make the whole team better.

You can teach skills. You can’t teach someone to love the thing they were made for.

Every time I watch this conversation, I catch something new.

There’s one moment that sticks with me:

“Stop caring about outcomes and start caring about the quality of the person that you are.
Keep building and investing in you — the rest will take care of itself.”

When I was in my 20s, I didn’t get this. I chased results instead of growth.
It took me more than a decade to realize that becoming the kind of person who can create success is way more important than chasing success itself.

If you’re in that phase right now — no matter your age — take the shortcut: invest in yourself first. The outcomes will follow.

Yeah, we were victims during COVID.
But we didn’t need to act like it.

We didn’t cry for bailouts.
We adapted.
We built.
We survived.

Playing the victim might feel good short-term—but it keeps you stuck.
