What a wonderful weekend for One Book Two Book! The weather was great, the new location at the Chauncey was fantastic, and the activities, stories, book characters, short films, author presentations, songs and books (so many books!) kept everyone very busy. Thanks to everyone who came out, and to our vendors, partners and volunteers for making it a Saturday to remember.

Our student authors are sharing their stories, poems and essays as part of the “Write Out Loud” event at Macbride Auditorium this afternoon. Our community has so many talented young writers!

Today is the day! Come join us for storytimes, activities, book sales, costume characters and more! The main events are at the Chauncey in downtown Iowa City, with play trains at MERGE. Now through 3 pm.

There is still time for teens to sign up for the Junior High Writing Jam, presented in partnership with the Iowa Youth Writing Project. This year's workshop features Iowa City's own Mike Meginnis, author of "Drowning Practice" and "Fat Man and Little Boy." The workshop will be held from 12-2 at Poindexter in the Graduate Hotel in downtown Iowa City. Register for this free workshop here:

Iowa City's own Michelle Edwards will join us at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, as part of our One Book Two Book programming. Michelle will share two of her recent books -- "Me and the Boss" and "A Hat for Mrs. Goldman" -- in one of FilmScene's theaters at the Chauncey, with the pages projected on the big screen. Don't miss this chance to hear her read the stories and talk about the process of writing the books! It's free, like everything else at One Book Two Book.

One big component of our annual festival is student writing. Students from across the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids Corridor submit work, and our partners with ACT select the best for recognition. We will honor one student in each grade, 1-8, in one of two categories: The Write Stuff and From the Heart. An additional 16 students won honorable mention recognition. All 32 students will be honored at our "Write Out Loud" ceremony at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, at Macbride Auditorium on the University of Iowa campus. You can read the 16 prize-winning essays here.

Our annual Write Out Loud event is always a highlight of One book Two Book.
At Write Out Loud, student writers in grades 1-8 in the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids Corridor area are showcased for their creativity and writing talent. This year the event has held virtually and uploaded to our Youtube channel.
