Dear St. Clement's,
It is with great sadness that I alert you of the untimely passing of Samuel Ward-Bey. Sammy departed this earthly life early May 30, 2021 while housed at Wayne County jail. His passing is currently under investigation.

For those who may not know Sammy, he was the executive director of Community Up Project (C.U.P.). CUP prided themselves for being associated with St. Clement's, using the Parish Hall to conduct meetings, bringing us in as a partner for Juneteenth celebrations etc. Most recently they were preparing hot meals at the church and disbursing them out into the community to the less fortunate. In the past they have assisted with clearing the sidewalks at St. Clements and for seniors during the winter months. His passing is a huge blow to the entire community and left us speechless. His loss will leave a void that cannot be filled. Sammy and CUP were one of the organizations thinking of ways to give back to St. Clements and always promoting St. Clements or Black Jesus throughout the community.

May his soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed Rest In Peace.

This Sunday we light the peace candle. This candle is a representation of the peace that Jesus brings. He brings peace to us and to those around us. In the King James Version of the Bible, the word peace is written 420 times. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
