Connection is the key.

What is the opposite of addiction? Connection.

Do you want to have a good day, an impactful life, a meaningful career? Yup. Connection.

At ABC Recovery Center, we see it every day. Someone walks through our doors alone, overwhelmed, and convinced they're out of options. Then something shifts. A conversation in group. A moment of laughter with a peer. A phone call they weren't expecting. Connection starts doing what it does — reminding people they matter.

This entire country was built on coming together when times are tough. But these days, we're so overloaded with information designed to disconnect us that we don't even notice it happening. Or, worse, we do — and we give into it anyway.

Here's what we've learned from more than 60 years of helping people recover: thoughts aren't things until we give them energy.
We all have millions of thoughts a day. Recovery teaches us we can pick the good ones and let the rest fall by the wayside. We can wake up with the same thought every morning and still choose to give our power to something better.

If you or someone you love feels powerless today, start small. Smile at someone. Ask how they're doing — and wait for a response. Pick up the phone and call someone you haven't talked to in a while. Leave them a nice voicemail. Connection doesn't require a grand gesture. It just requires showing up.

The greatest thing about connection as currency is that it works nothing like the transactional kind. Give, expecting nothing in return, and you'll be richer than you ever imagined.

That's the work we do. That's the work we believe in. 💙
